Description

The Survey Group Director plays a key role in the overall management and execution of survey projects and initiatives. This includes coordination and collaboration with survey team members, HR, accounting, other practice areas, and internal and external clients. This role is responsible for daily oversight of survey operations including staff management, staff scheduling, scope and fee proposals, project management and quality control.  The Survey Group Director plays a key role in driving the overall strategic direction of the surveying department and promoting best practices in land surveying.


Leadership and Team Management within an Office

  • Lead, supervise and mentor the Geomatics team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
  • Provide leadership and opportunities in the development and growth of staff with a focus on strength-based management. Provide guidance and support to help staff achieve their professional and organizational goals.
  • Focus on placing the right people in the right seats and collaborate on thoughtful guidance of personnel.
  • Lead, develop, and participate in Practice Area and Company recruitment efforts.
  • Foster a positive and supportive work environment.
  • With Practice Area Lead, provide responsibility and accountability for the systematic and consistent operations, management, supervision, administration, planning, budgeting, operational and financial performance of the Geomatics team for that office.
  • With Practice Area Lead, create and execute strategic and business plans in conjunction with overall WR business plans.
  • Provide technical expertise, advice, and leadership for the Geomatics Team. 
  • Lead quality control/quality assurance development and implementation consistent with company standards and the requirements of our clients and regulatory agencies.

Project Management and Execution

  • Lead, supervise, and/or manage projects while collaborating with other practice areas on technical matters.
  • Establish defined project scopes, budgets and proposals.
  • Lead and/or supervise the coordination of office personnel and field crews including providing job assignments, information, direction and daily checking of field notes. Verifying the accuracy of field measurements and calculations.
  • Foster internal and external client relations to perpetuate long term relationships and partnerships.
  • Produce and provide consistent and accurate deliverables to internal and external clients.

Client and Business Development

  • Help develop, implement, and monitor Business Development Plan for Geomatics with Practice Area Lead, and Business Development staff.
  • Understand, monitor, and engage in industry and professional organizations and funding mechanisms that affect the Geomatics practice, promoting participation within Geomatics.
  • Participate in and promote existing strategic client development and associated relationship processes for Geomatics Practice Area and Company, including client feedback.
  • Participate in the development of marketing collateral for the Geomatics Practice Area.
  • Assist in strategic pursuit of potential clients per Geomatics Practice Area including assisting in organizing and participation in conferences/networking events.
  • Monitor, review, and lead proposal and RFQ/RFP responses.

Requirements

Required qualifications:

  • Licensure as a North Carolina Professional Land Surveyor
  • 10+ years surveying experience 
  • 8+ years within a management or supervisory role 
  • Extensive knowledge of land surveying practices, techniques, methodologies, and equipment.
  • Proficiency with Civil 3D and MS Office.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients, stakeholders, and team members.
  • Self-motivated, engaged, team-oriented, communicative, and strategic thinker with strong leadership and management      skills.
  • Ability to organize work, establish priorities, meet established deadlines, and follow up on assignments with little direction.
  • Valid Drivers License with the ability to pass MVR records check.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Geomatics
  • Carlson experience
  • Licensure in other Southeastern states a plus (SC, VA, etc.)

Working Conditions


The assignment will require occasional evening and weekend work, job site visits outdoors, and working in collaborative, fast-paced, and client-driven environment. 


Physical Requirements


The assignment may require repetitive physical tasks, standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time, extended time traveling in a vehicle, and carrying equipment and materials up to 50 pounds.
