Job Summary - The general responsibility of the Groundskeeper is to maintain and improve the Shocco Springs landscape at a high level of excellence and beauty. 


Summary of Essential Job Functions

  • Work to complete all assignments to standards and expectations given by director. 
  • Maintain and improve Shocco Springs grounds: 
  • Keep lawns cut, trimmed, cleaned, fertilized, and watered 
  • Maintain all aspects of the landscape, including but not limited to pruning, trimming, mulching, planting, irrigation, spraying, spreading 
  • Maintain equipment 
  • Daily checks of all assigned equipment fluid levels and lubrication per established procedures. Check for damage and/or needed repairs 
  • Maintain all grounds equipment per established Preventative Maintenance Procedures 
  • Keep all equipment clean and stored in proper location 
  • Keep all grounds, sidewalks, and roadways clean of litter and debris. Keep all trash bins and receptacles empty and clean. Transport all campus refuse to dumpster or landfill. 
  • Work safely. Help identify and eliminate any and all hazards to our guests, employees, and property. 
  • Accept miscellaneous assignments as agreed upon with the director.

Job Related 

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred 
  • Experience in grounds work preferred. Working knowledge in lawn maintenance needed 
  • Ability to communicate (auditory, verbal, written) adeptly with guests, employees, and program personnel 
  • Available to work weekdays (Mon-Fri) with some occasional weekend shifts. Summer shifts are 6:30 AM to 3:15 PM. Normal shifts are 7:45 AM to 4:30 PM. 
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA and other generally accepted standards 

Physical 

  • Ability to operate for the duration of an 8 hour shift, each shift, small to medium sized tractors and mowers, commercial sized weedeater, and other similar equipment used in landscaping maintenance operations 
  • Ability to operate a company vehicle with trailer 
  • Ability to lift, carry, and load onto a 4 ft. high platform bales of straw, bags of seed/fertilizer/dirt, cement blocks, or yard debris up to 80 pounds. 
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions indigenous to Talladega County, AL 
  • Ability to abstain from use of tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, and controlled substances
