POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to providing safe bus transportation for the YMCA summer programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Safely transports passengers
2. Perform all driving duties with the utmost safety and defensive driving techniques.
3. Conduction and record pre/post-trip inspection
4. Assist youth in the loading and unloading process
Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.
5. Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff—models relationship-building skills in all interactions.
6. Maintains clean bus
7. Responsible for keeping the bus fueled, following all fueling procedures
8. Understands emergency action procedures, including but not limited to weather incidents, flat tires, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. CDL Class B Certification
2. 21 Years of age
3. One to three years of related experience
4. High school or GED equivalent
5. Good verbal communication skills
6. Must be able to pass a background check
7. Previous experience working with children
8. CPR, First Aid, AED and Child Abuse Prevention certifications before the start date
9. No previous driving convictions (DUI)
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Duties are performed on a school bus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to loud noise levels, fumes or airborne particles, noxious odors, vibrations from driving a bus, and traffic. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; use foot controls to drive; reach with hands and arms; climb, bend, stoop, and kneel; and talk to hear. The employee must be physically able to perform and demonstrate emergency evacuation procedures. This includes the pushing/pulling of up to 50 pounds. In addition, you can use emergency exits at any location on the bus. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, night/dusk vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
