Harbor’s Edge is a premier 5-star, resort-style Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) located alongside the beautiful harbor in Norfolk, Virginia. Our community consists of 300 Independent Living Residential Units, a 33-bed (Medicare/private) Skilled Nursing Healthcare Unit, a 40-bed Assisted Living Unit, and 34-bed Memory Support Unit. 

We are looking for a full-time Assistant Purchasing Agent responsible for supporting the Purchasing Agent with ordering, organizing and inventory of food, beverages, and supplies for all dining operations at Harbors Edge. Responsible to ensure that all food, beverages, and supplies that are received are up to high quality standards and comply with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Purchase food and beverage goods, as well as paper and cleaning supplies as assigned by the Purchasing Agent. 
• Prepare dining requisitions for healthcare departments.
• Inspect incoming goods and stocks according to health standards, contacts vendors relating to problems with goods such as wrong items, poor quality, and resolves issues. 
• Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures and regulatory agencies.
• Monitor food and beverage inventory throughout the department and communicates items that are not being utilized to the Purchasing Agent.
• Maintain positive relationships with delivery personnel, following proper receiving practices and directing them where to place incoming items.
• Negotiate prices and delivery schedules based upon needs.

REQUIREMENTS:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. 
• At least one (1) year of purchasing experience with at least two (2) years in food service establishments.
• Long-term care industry experience or related high-volume, high-end food service environment preferred. 
• Knowledge of the logistics of storage and warehousing.
• Knowledge of the principles of high-end institutional food service, including food planning, preparation, cooking and storage; dietetics and sanitation
