Reports to: Director for Family Evangelization and Faith Formation 

FLSA Status: Full-time

Work Schedule:  Monday through Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, flexible evenings and weekends as needed 


Summary: The Associate Director of Family Evangelization and Faith Formation is a collaborative role focused on advancing the archdiocesan vision and mission in the areas of marriage and family ministry and faith formation in parishes, especially to promote a vision of faith formation that is family centered. The primary areas of ministry supported in this position are RCIA and Sacramental Preparation but also, more generally, Religious Education (catechesis) and Faith Formation in parishes. 


This position is active in outreach to parishes and deaneries throughout the Archdiocese with an emphasis on formation for parish leaders related to these respective areas of ministry. Formation may take place through parish visits, deanery meetings, and developing and giving workshops and trainings. Another key component of this position is the implementation of guidelines related to sacramental preparation and religious education.


Implementing the vision for this area of ministry and will require regular and ongoing travel to parishes. This position involves being out of the office executing on the plans of the Archdiocese guided by the Director for Family Evangelization & Faith Formation. It also involves contributing to these plans and shaping/evaluating effective outcomes.


The fundamental basis of this role is an integration of the New Evangelization and Missionary Discipleship in a pastoral de conjunto to serve the multicultural pastoral needs of children, youth, young adults, adults (as couples, and men and women as individuals) and seniors. 

Requirements

Position Responsibilities:

• *Offer trainings and workshops in RCIA, Sacramental Preparation, and Faith Formation for parish ministry leaders throughout the Archdiocese.

• *Develop new formation and workshops, as needed, based on the vision and guidelines of the Department for Pastoral Ministries.

• *Communicate with parish ministry leaders to develop a sense of supportive presence, offer formation, and help make them aware of training opportunities.

• *Work with the Director in identifying current programs and models used in Family Evangelization and Faith Formation to evaluate their usage in parishes.

• *Implement First Reconciliation/First Holy Communion and DRE Handbook Guidelines by promoting them with parish leaders.

• *Organize, analyze, and present data related to ministry leaders in these areas. Make recommendations based on available data.

• *Promote and implement best practices in specialized area based in an awareness of available research. This requires being informed of research that is relevant to the area of Family Evangelization & Faith Formation.

• Work closely with the Office of Communications to ensure information is posted regularly, to keep parishes informed of Family Evangelization and Faith Formation opportunities and resources.

• Collaborate with the appropriate offices and staff to effectively lead and support initiatives that involve Family Evangelization & Faith Formation.

• Serve as the lead or support the lead for events connected to Family Evangelization and Faith Formation as assigned by the Director. 

• Offer formation to Deacons as well as formation at Mexican American Catholic College as requested.

• Identify pastoral needs of ministry leaders and respond appropriately. This includes the awareness of when ministry leaders need referral for guidance or services with other offices; including situations that need referral beyond the scope of pastoral and ministerial support.    

• Ensures the mission, vision, values and priorities of the archdiocese are communicated clearly and carried out effectively, efficiently and collaboratively within assigned office.  

• Regularly engage in personal growth, professional development, theological study, prayer, charity and justice work, and spiritual formation.

• Foster a “Pastoral Conjunto” environment by leading by example, resolving issues, and making sound decisions.

• Adhering to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.   

• Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.

• Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Morals Policy is mandatory.

• Every employee is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

  

Minimum Qualifications: 

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree required. Master's in theology or Pastoral Ministry preferred.
  • In cases where there is no Master's degree there should be evidence of education in pastoral ministry and/or catechesis – at least 3 years of formal study.

Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Family Ministry and/or Parish Catechesis and Faith Formation. Ministry with families is preferred.
  • Experience using key catechetical documents such as Catechism of the Catholic Church, the Directory for Catechesis, Evangelii  Gaudium to guide parish ministry.
  • Must be a Roman Catholic in good standing with the  Church.

License and Credentials

Minimum Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred;
  • Bi-cultural background to recognize and engage different social realities and challenges is highly preferred.
  • Intimate knowledge of the Sacred Scriptures and the capacity to offer formation through the lens of the Word of God.
  • Excellence in organizational management, setting and achieving goals and objectives, and managing a budget.
  • Past success working with committees and the ability to cultivate existing committee member relationships.
  • Strong public relations skills with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders that include parishes, groups, other churches, as well as within and beyond the Pastoral Center.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; a passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills, including: professional tact and courtesy, and ability to express ideas clearly, creatively, and logically, both orally and in writing.
  • Experience with computer software and thorough proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite. Other publishing programs preferred.
  • Keen sense of missionary spirit and missionary zeal.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team; passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven and self-directed.
  • Must have good critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Travel Requirements:

Travel requirements for the position includes up to 50% local and 2% overnight.
