Reports to:  Director for Youth and Young Adult Ministry 

FLSA Status: Exempt

Work Schedule:  Monday through Friday 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, flexible evenings and weekends as needed 

  

Summary: The Associate Director of Youth & Young Adults provides direct support to the Director for Youth and Young Adult Ministry, to advance the archdiocesan vision and mission in the areas of middle school ministry, high school ministry, young adult ministry and preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. This includes but is not limited to leading and supporting initiatives and assisting the Director in providing guidance and support to parishes in the Archdiocese of San Antonio regarding these areas of ministry.


This position is active in outreach to parishes and deaneries throughout the Archdiocese with an emphasis on formation and support for parish leaders related to these respective areas of ministry. Formation may take place through parish visits, deanery meetings, minister gatherings, and developing and giving workshops and trainings. Another key component of this position is the implementation of guidelines related to Confirmation preparation and youth and young adult ministry. 

Requirements

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop new formation and workshops, as needed, based on the vision and guidelines of the Department for Pastoral Ministries.
  • *Offer regular trainings and workshops in middle school ministry, high school ministry and Confirmation preparation for parish ministry leaders throughout the Archdiocese.
  • *Communicate with parish ministry leaders to develop a sense of supportive presence, offer formation, and help make them aware of training opportunities.
  • Create, contribute and manage content for communications to parish leaders and relevant audiences. This includes collaboration with the appropriate DPM staff for promotional efforts. 
  • Work closely with the Office of Communications to ensure information is posted regularly, to keep informed of Youth/Young Adult opportunities and resources.
  • Assist in maintaining up to date contact information for parish leadership in youth and young adult ministry. 
  • *Work with the Director in identifying current programs and models used in parish youth ministry, especially in the area of adolescent preparation for the Sacrament of Confirmation. 
  • *Collaborate with the appropriate offices and staff to effectively lead and support initiatives in order to further the vision of comprehensive ministry to youth and young adults. 
  • Develop and maintain local partnerships and relationships with Lay Ecclesial Movements, internal and external Church organizations connected to the areas of youth and young adult ministry. 
  • *Serve as a resource and guide for pastors and parish ministers for specific parish needs or concerns related to ministry with youth and young adults, including confirmation preparation for adolescents and young adults. Examples include but are not limited to: Give workshops and trainings, attending deanery meetings, meeting with parish leaders, and attending parish faith formation processes.
  • Keeping data/records related to parish connections and formation. 
  • *Promote and implement best practices in specialized area.
  • *Serve as the lead or support the lead for events connected to ministry with youth and young adults as assigned by the Director. 
  • Offer formation to Deacons as well as formation at Mexican American Catholic College
  • *Create ministerial content to engage relevant audiences through established platforms. This includes fostering digital engagement of and responding to outreach from these platforms. 
  • *Identify pastoral needs of ministry leaders and responding appropriately. This includes the awareness of when ministry leaders need referral for guidance or services with other offices; including situations that need referral beyond the scope of pastoral and ministerial support.    
  • *Ensures the mission, vision, values and priorities of the archdiocese is communicated clearly and carried out effectively, efficiently and collaboratively within assigned office.  
  • Regularly engage in personal growth, professional development, theological study, prayer, charity and justice work, and spiritual formation.
  • Foster a “Pastoral Conjunto” environment by leading by example, resolving issues, and making sound decisions.
  • Adhering to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and taking precautionary measure to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.   
  • Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization to include but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
  • Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in any area of ministry, or related field. 

Experience

  • Minimum of seven (7) years of experience in parish       youth ministry development and evaluation
  • Must be a Roman Catholic in good standing with the       Church.

License and Credentials

  • Reliable transportation
  • Valid driver license
  • Valid vehicle insurance

Minimum Knowledge and Skills: 

  •   A thorough working knowledge of      the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the General Directory of Catechesis,      the National Directory for Catechesis, Christus Vivit, Renewing      the Vision, and current developments in the Church’s theology of the      vocation of the laity.
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish preferred
  • Bi-cultural background to recognize and engage different social realities and challenges is highly preferred.
  • Excellence in organizational management, setting and achieving goals and objectives, and managing a budget.
  • Past success working with committees and the ability to cultivate existing committee member relationships.
  • Strong public relations skills with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders that include parishes, groups, other churches, as well as within and beyond the Pastoral Center.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; a passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills, including: professional tact and courtesy, and ability to express ideas clearly, creatively, and logically, both orally and in writing.
  • Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude and mission-driven.
  • Experience with computer software and thorough proficiency of Microsoft Office Suite. Other publishing programs preferred.
  • Keen sense of missionary spirit and missionary zeal.
  • Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team;
  • Must have good critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Travel Requirements:

Travel requirements for the position includes up to 50% local and 5% overnight.
