The primary responsibility of the Senior Accountant is to assist with the day-to-day accounting responsibilities of the agency.


Senior Accountant Essential Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

Financial Statements

  • Perform bank reconciliations and ensure accuracy of financial records.
  • Support the preparation of financial statements, including income statements and balance sheets, month-end, and year-end closing procedures.
  • Prepare journal entries and maintain general ledger accounts (monthly and at year-end).
  • Conduct account reconciliations to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
  • Track and report on Senior Subsidy, Links and Enhanced Companion program.   

Payroll 

  • Implement, maintain and reviews payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.
  • Collaborate with HR to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices.
  • Identify and recommend updates to payroll processing, systems, and procedures.

Cash Management

  • Manage the process of daily cash reports. Post all transfers and bank activities daily to GL
  • Manage and reconcile petty cash and gift cards at month end.
  • Reconcile corporate credit cards monthly.
  • Review 1099’s
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from an accredited institution preferred or equivalent years of working experience in a non-profit setting
  • Three to five years of grant applications and reporting experience
  • Three to five years accounting experience
  • Three years of non -profit budgeting experience
  • Experience with accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general accounting mandatory 
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)required
  • Working knowledge of payroll; familiarity with Paylocity a plus
  •  Detail oriented with keen attention to accuracy
  •  Advance working knowledge of Excel, pivot tables a plus
  • Experience in MIP Fund Accounting Software preferable
  •  Proficient in Microsoft Word, Power Point and Outlook
  •  Maintains strong analytical, written, oral and interpersonal skills
  •  Must be able prioritize and work on several tasks unilaterally
