Description

Working closely with the Director of Facilities, the Facility Maintenance Engineer assists in all facets of day-to-day operations, maintenance, and repairs of the Library's buildings and systems. The responsibilities encompass a wide range of tasks, including the maintenance and repair of HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems. The Facilities Department plays a crucial role in preserving the Library's collection. Additionally, providing a clean and safe space for staff, patrons, and guests.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the physical plant systems to include HVAC/R, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing. 
  • Responsible for boilers, fluid cooler, water chemistry, snow melt system, emergency generators and automatic transfer switches.
  • Assists in operating and maintaining fire, security and card access systems.
  • Assists with Grounds equipment repairs as needed.
  • Responsible for maintaining the stock level of maintenance supplies associated. 
  • Provides oversight to outside contractors on service contracts, projects or repairs.
  • Safeguarding the Library, staff, patrons, and guests, responding to and reporting incidents as necessary.
  • Maintain current skills and knowledge in the proper and safe techniques of facility maintenance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required

  • A high school diploma or GED
  • Basic math skills
  • Universal Refrigeration Certification
  • Proficient skills in the maintenance, trouble shooting and repair of facility systems including HVAC/R, mechanical, plumbing and electrical
  • On-call availability for after-hours and weekends as needed
  • Basic computer knowledge including the use of the internet and the ability to learn Microsoft Outlook e-mail and Teams program is required 

Desirable

  • 3 years of facility maintenance engineering experience preferred
  • Building automation system such as Johnson Controls experience preferred
  • Familiar with emergency generators and automatic transfer switches
