About the job:

Provide leadership and supervision for tennis instructional programs while also serving in a front line lead role.   


 A day in the life: 

  • Directs, trains, mentors, sets goals with and evaluates staff.
  • Performs program specific planning and evaluation within broad goals and guidelines.
  • Facilitates inclusion of special needs participants in program.
  • Addresses program specific risk management issues.
  • Identifies needed staff and equipment. 
  • Handles emergency situations as needed.
  • Completes required reports/paperwork.
  • Purchases supplies, not to exceed $100.
  • Monitors program expenditures to ensure spending is in line with budget.
  • Oversees general upkeep and care of equipment, supplies and facilities used.
  • Attends supervisory and planning meetings.
  • Prepares necessary materials.
  • Communicates on a regular basis with participant or parent/guardian and community partners regarding concerns and emerging issues. 
  • Acts as a Mandatory Reporter; reports incidents of child abuse/neglect.
  • Performs job related duties as assigned.

 

Schedule:

 This is a seasonal position from early June to mid August.

What you'll need for success: 

Considerable Knowledge of: 

Progressive community instruction tennis programs, effective teaching techniques and age appropriate activities for populations served, safety guidelines related to assignment. 


General knowledge of: 

Ability and skill to: 

Exercise initiative and significant independent decision making; demonstrate leadership, organizational, planning and problem solving skills; communicate effectively in both verbal and written form; supervise and motivate staff; interact with a variety of patrons/participants; demonstrate tennis techniques; establish and maintain positive, respectful and cooperative relationships with all contacts.


What we're looking for:

Education, Experience, and Training:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent; college courses in related field preferred; AND 
  2. One (1) year of experience in area of responsibility and/or performing similar tasks; OR
  3. Any satisfactory combination of education, experience and training.


License and Certification:

  1. Possession of or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire a valid First Aid/CPR certification.


Position Specific Requirement:

This position may require reporting to additional sites throughout the workday, typically achieved in a motor vehicle OR other modes of transportation. If choosing a personal vehicle, possession of, or ability to obtain valid Oregon driver’s license within 30 days with an acceptable driving history as defined by district driving policy.


If you do not have a driver’s license or have an unacceptable driving history, it does not disqualify you from this position, only from driving a vehicle for district business.

 

Supervision Exercised:

Supervision is not normally a responsibility of this position; however provides leadership and direction to Tennis Instructor staff and Tennis Aide staff and volunteers.


Supervision Received:   

Work under the direct supervision of a Sports Coordinator. 


Working Conditions:

  • Depending on job assignment, duties may be performed either indoors or outdoors, which may include exposure to environmental conditions such as extreme temperatures.
  • Work schedule is varied and may require evenings, weekends and holidays.  
  • Ability to walk and stand for sustained periods of time with frequent climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, bending, and twisting.
  • The flow of work and character of duties involve normal mental and visual attention much or all of the time.  
  • Physical exertion includes frequent walking, bending, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted, pushing, pulling, and kneeling in order to deliver equipment and supplies and set-up and break-down equipment and facilities.  
  • Exposure to large crowds, uncooperative or difficult individuals, exposure to illness, and periods of continuous demand
