GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The purpose of this position is to monitor and screen all waste and recyclable materials delivered by residents to County convenience centers, assist the public in placing materials in proper containers, monitor container volume, and maintain site appearance and safety. This position works under the supervision of the Convenience Center Manager.


ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

  1. Open and close convenience center to ensure timely service.
  2. Monitor and screen all waste and recyclable materials delivered by residents to center.
  3. Direct Traffic at centers.
  4. Assist public in placing materials in proper containers, determine if waste is acceptable or hazardous
  5. Monitor volume of recyclable containers to ensure capacity is available to receive recyclables and household waste.
  6. Operate stationary compactor.
  7. Maintain convenience center and surrounding area in a clean, orderly manner, pick up garbage and debris, landscape, etc.
  8. Maintain records of daily activities.
  9. Answer telephone and provide information and assistance to callers.
  10. Clean and maintain assigned tools.
  11. Assist with other solid waste dept. functions as assigned.


Essential Job Duties are intended to be examples of duties and are not intended to be all inclusive. There will be other duties as assigned.


Additional duties include:

Assist handicapped residents of Oconee County with the placing of recyclables/garbage into the appropriate receptacles, assist convenience center manager with atypical activities or events such as Ecycle Drive, and promote awareness of electronics recycling, etc.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Job requires performing semi-routine work following procedures with occasional problems, using basic addition and subtraction, reading simple sentences, instructions or work orders; writing simple sentences and completing simple job forms; speaking simple sentences using basic grammar. Mental requirements for the job are performing simple, repetitive manual, clerical or operating tasks following a few definite p procedures; requires minor short-term planning with attention for accurate results.

The educational requirement for this position is:

  • Completion of high school/GED.
  • Education may not be substituted for experience.
