Summary & Objective
The Volunteer Services Manager is responsible for the recruitment, training, retention, evaluation of the patient care and administrative volunteer program.
Essential Functions
- Develops, implements and evaluates a written plan for the recruitment of volunteers capable of meeting the patient care and administrative needs for the Hospice program.
- Develops a volunteer training schedule and agenda that incorporates presentations and materials provided by qualified staff and outside individuals representing the full spectrum of services provided by Catholic Hospice, for the purpose of educating patient care and administrative volunteers.
- Interviews all potential patient care and administrative volunteers and selects those who are appropriate for training and assignment.
- Works closely with Administration in the recruitment of volunteers for any Special Events.
- Recruits staff for community engagement requests.
- Schedules and maintains community engagement activities for the Volunteer Program.
- Assigns all patient care and administrative volunteers based on the needs of the organization and abilities of the volunteers.
- Develops a continuing education program for the purpose of updating and keeping current the knowledge, skills and abilities of patient care and administrative volunteers in order to meet the needs of the organization.
- Manages recruitment, training and professionalism of teen interns and volunteers.
- Develops Teen Intern manual that provides information, including rules and job expectations.
- Works with department heads to develop a comprehensive teen volunteer needs assessment for volunteer program and community hours.

Other Duties
- Ensures compliance in the on-boarding process.
- Maintains appropriate records for all patient care and administrative volunteers.
- Keeps an accurate accounting of patient care and administrative volunteer hours.
- Keeps appropriate statistics on patient care and administrative volunteer services.
- Supervises all patient care and administrative volunteers.
- Schedules teen volunteers into shift work for community hours, based on departmental needs and organizational priorities.
- Works to keep teen volunteers properly informed about the volunteer program and their duties, through orientation meetings, group sessions, manuals emails and phone calls.
- Works with all teen volunteers to insure a positive experience.
- Educate staff and respond to diverse referral sources regarding questions pertaining to Hospice services.
- Responsible for on call emergencies, including weekends and holidays.
- Promotes positive employee engagement, teamwork, mutual respect and safety work practices.
- Maintain required mandatory skill updates.
- Comply with all policies, local, state and federal laws and regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibility
- May serve as an interim department leader depending on need
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 250+ pounds, walk, climb stair or ladders, stand on feet for extended periods of time, etc.

Knowledge & Experience Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 1-2 years of program coordination and project management experience.
- 1-2 years recruiting, screening, and training experience.
- Working knowledge of best practices in volunteer coordination.
- Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative work environment and promoting teamwork.
- Must have knowledge of computer office/clinical software.
- Must be able to read, write and understand the English language.
