Position Overview:

The Warranty & Product Validation Engineer is responsible for assuring products meet DMA standards and warranty is held to expected levels. Oversees the Warranty & Product Validation Technician who reports to this position. Conducts validation tests beyond testing that that technician conducts and confers with CAD data when required to ascertain where issue lie. This position finalizes inspection result documents or in the ERP system for further customer response or evaluation by the appropriate engineering team members. Works with product management and suppliers to rectify variances to product specifications or warranty problems. The Vice President of Product R&D supervises this position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages Warranty & Product Validation Technician, providing guidance, leadership, and if required discipline to the role, assuring effective part validation and warranty processing  
  • Reviewing and finalizing warranty reports for customers. Assuring they are complete and done on time, to give DMA best possible chance of mitigating customer deductions. Keeping portals and tracking files up to date
  • Conduct additional testing and comparison to CAD files as required. Handing off to product engineering as required, then following up as needed to assure answer is received and recorded
  • Set repair procedures for repairing stock, and assist in training repair team as needed. Responsible for working with VP of R&D and Supply Chain to assure we have right parts and tools to repair products.  
  • Maintain and monitor written inspection schedule agreed with supervisor
  • Coordinates product CAR investigations with the Engineering Product Development Engineers to conclusion
  • Responds to customer quality concerns and maintain records of communications.
  • Recommends quality control actions, repairs, and quarantine decisions to Engineering management with all necessary impact information for decision-making
  • Facilitates review of nonconforming inventory and monitors product repair activities
  • Assists Engineering management in preparing sampling plans for the finished product for the field inspector, entering data into the QMS system
  • Works with product engineers, product management, and vendors to address new part variances to specifications and warranty issues


Requirements

Education/Experience & Skills:

  • Two year technical degree. Engineering degree, military training, or strong knowledge of automobile repair are pluses.
  • Understand and demonstrate the proper techniques for operating and maintaining measurement tools, hand tools, and testing equipment. 
  • Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office, especially Excel. Experience with handling data and input with ERP system a plus.
  • Knowledge of quality systems (8D, CAR, AQL) is a plus
  • Strong written communication skills, including report preparation. To prepare all documentation this position requires, need to be able to absorb, organize, and analyze large amounts of information and recognize key data points and what information means
  • Ability to read and interpret data from drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to lift parts to 50 pounds from the floor to a worktable for inspection.
  • Requires ability to self direct work 
  • Requires problem solving skills to assess parts and ascertain probable reasons for failures 
  • The primary work location is the Wellman Laboratory. This position will travel to other DMA warehouse locations occasionally



Language Skills: Ability to read and write in English. Ability to effectively articulate and present information and respond to questions from Management in a professional manner.
