Geomatics/Survey Student Intern

Who we are looking for...

We are seeking a College Survey Intern with an innovative mindset, strong time management skills, organization, good work ethic, and someone ready to make an impact in the communities ETM serves. The following skills will be required for this position: 

  • Assist in the setup and calibration of surveying instruments, such as total stations, levels, and GPS receivers.
  • Participate in field surveys by assisting with measurements, data collection, and equipment operation.
  • Support the survey crew by holding and positioning surveying rods or prism poles during measurements.
  • Assist in locating and marking survey control points, benchmarks, and reference points.
  • Assist in processing and managing survey data using surveying software and data management tools.
  • Perform basic data analysis and quality control checks under the guidance of the surveying team.
  • Contribute to the preparation of survey reports, drawings, and deliverables as directed.
  • Organize and maintain survey records, including field notes, data files, and project documentation.
  • Assist in preparing survey documents, such as legal descriptions, plats, and survey reports.
  • Support administrative tasks, such as filing, data entry, and report generation as required.
  • Gain exposure to surveying principles, techniques, and equipment operation.
  • Shadow and learn from experienced surveyors, observing field and office procedures.
  • Seek opportunities to expand knowledge through training sessions, workshops, and industry events.
  • Collaborate effectively with the surveying team and follow instructions from senior surveyors.
  • Communicate progress, challenges, and observations to the surveying team.
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude while working with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Enrollment in a college or university program in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of surveying principles and techniques is preferred.
  • Familiarity with surveying instruments and software is advantageous.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and traverse uneven terrain.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in measurements and data recording.
  • Good organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Proficiency in using office software, such as MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
