SWIM LESSON INSTRUCTOR
Description

To provide safe, high quality and organized swim lessons.

  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Conduct a well organized and safe class.
  2. Participate in the water. Demonstrate while teaching.
  3. Complete all required records and reports on schedule. Formulate daily lesson plans, keep attendance, complete evaluations for swimmers, incident and accident reports and sub forms.
  4. Assist with set up before classes and replacing equipment after use.
  5. Communicate with swim participants and parents about the progress of the swimmer.
  6. Attend training and meetings that contribute to staff growth and learning.
  7. Let the aquatic coordinator know if there’s concern with swim participant absence.
  8. Cooperate with other directors and staff in the total development and operation of the Y.
  9. Follow all procedures established by the Aquatic Coordinator and outlined in the Aquatic Staff Manual.
  10. All other duties assigned.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Current CPR AED and First Aid certification (must include adult, child, and infant CPR and obstructed airway maneuver, two-rescuer CPR, modified jaw thrust, and use of pocket-mask and bag-valve mask resuscitation. American Safety & Health Institute CPR-PRO, American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer, American Heart Association CPR for the Health Care Provider, and National Safety Council Professional Rescuer CPR certification programs meet these requirements.)
  2. Swim 50 yards each of : sidestroke, front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke, and elementary backstroke.  
  3. Tread water for two minutes.
  4. Reflect emotional maturity, good communication skills, judgment, tact, and a positive attitude.
  5. Must Complete YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Certification within a 90 day period of hire. 


PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Sufficient strength, agility and mobility to perform essential functions of position and to safely supervise children’s activities.
