Position Overview:


Katapult is seeking a General Counsel to provide strategic legal advice, manage corporate governance matters, and collaborate with various departments to grow Katapult while mitigating legal and compliance risks. The ideal candidate will be a generalist who has strong experience with corporate and commercial transactions, leading teams, SEC reporting and compliance, corporate governance best practices, and a proven track record of success in a similar role. This position is part of the executive management team. This includes spearheading critical initiatives, providing insight and advice to the executive leadership team and building a strong team/partner framework for our legal and compliance needs.  Our future GC will have demonstrable experience leading the legal and compliance infrastructure and execution, preferably within a growing fintech organization. In addition to this role, the current legal team consists of a compliance lawyer and a compliance analyst.


Primary Job Duties:


? Support the Board and executive leadership on strategic decisions regarding business evolution, product expansion, partnerships, and general execution of the business strategy

? Manage internal and external legal resources and partners related to legal and compliance activities, within the allocated expense budget

? Guide the Board and leadership on best SEC and corporate governance practices

? Oversees and strategizes for litigation, working closely with external firms as needed 

? Analyzes and reports on legal and regulatory updates and developments germane to the business

? Supporting the business and direction for general commercial, partner and vendor contracts

? Provide legal support for internal functions, including sales, human resources, marketing, finance, support and IT at all levels of the business

? Support focus on data protection & IP, including reviewing and negotiating agreements related to data processing and supporting data privacy processes, policies and issues

? Lead all regulatory audits, including conducting annual internal compliance audits, and meet with regulators on exams and other regulatory matters

? Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk and coordinates mitigation strategies with department leaders

? Overall responsibility to evaluate Katapult’s services and operations for compliance issues and design and update the national compliance management program in accordance with applicable federal and state-level regulations and other applicable consumer protection law regulations for Katapult’s offices and business

Requirements

  

Qualifications:


? Bachelor's degree and JD from accredited institution 

? At least one state bar admission and in good standing. Preferably in Texas or New York.

? 7+ years of legal experience with at least 5 years working as the top attorney for a public company

? Preferred experience in consumer financial products, fintech and services.

? Must have strong personal computer and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to operate as part of a distributed team (remotely)

? Collaborator that presents all sides to potential risks giving leaders sufficient information to make the best decisions

? Natural problem solver and commercially focused

? Excellent judgment and analytical skills
