General Summary: 

Provides engineering and project management requirements for engineers maintaining and improving Rainbow Energy Center generation facilities.

Create and develop concepts, plans and specifications for proper design, construction, and operation of new and existing plant equipment or other assigned projects. Manage projects by working directly with scheduling, purchasing, and contractors to ensure accurate, economic, and timely completion.

Investigate and evaluate equipment failures and minor system changes to maintenance and operational procedures and practices to achieve optimum system and equipment performance.

Provide technical support services, including researching specific requirements, preparing cost estimates, contributing to design decision, determining procedures for obtaining qualified contractors and awarding contracts, obtaining field measurements, and performing calculations as needed to support engineering activities.

Assist with equipment inspections during unity outages to provide analysis and technical assessments.

Perform work involving complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures in order to develop new or refined equipment, materials, process, products, or methods.

Develop and evaluate plans and criterial for a variety of projects and activities to be carried out by others to maintain engineering quality assurances and controls. Act as staff advisor and consultant in technical specialty to provide engineering expertise while seeking solutions to operational problems.

Complete detailed planning of project needs and outage maintenance for up to one year in the future and general planning of programs implementation for up to five years in the future which supports company mission and vision.

Provide project management on complex modification projects requiring unconventional or novel approaches and sophisticated research techniques in order to monitor and control project expenditures against the established budget and to prepare and maintain schedules.

Perform work involving a number of projects of major scope and importance. Conceive, plan and conduct research in problem areas of considerable scope and complexity and develop new designs or techniques to improve optimum plant efficiencies.

Study new scientific methods and developments affecting the organization. Act as a technical specialist in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles and processes for assigned area of responsibility while seeking to improve plant efficiencies.

Ensure compliance with safety policies and procedures, procedures, laws and regulations. Report and investigate accidents, maintain safety awareness, and promote all aspects of Rainbow Energy Center’s (REC’s) safety program. Report all noncompliance and endorse all aspects of REC’s environmental management programs. 

Requirements

  

Job Criteria: 

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering along with a preferred one to three years’ experience in an engineering or science-related position within the utility or a related industry. 

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability and responsibility to work safely alone and with others while following REC safety rules, certifications, and procedures. 
  • Ability and responsibility to ensure security procedures are followed including immediate notification of potential incidents.
  • Proficiency in engineering and science principles and their application within a technical area. 
  • Ability to effectively plan, direct and coordinate work activities using approved management, and project manage principles. 
  • Must possess strong computer skills. 
  • Ability to research, analyze, and make recommendations related to engineering decisions. 
  • Navigate interdepartmental relationships. 
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. 

Working Conditions

Working conditions will be indoors and outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather conditions of extreme cold or heat. Must be able to travel to various locations throughout the plant and facility grounds. Conditions in the plant and facility grounds may include extreme temperatures, noise levels, and heights. There will be overtime, and/or working weekends and infrequent overnight travel. 

This position requires the ability to occasionally to frequently sit, stand, walk, and lift up to 20-50 lbs. frequently and bi-lateral carry up to 100 lbs. on rare occasion. The ability to climb, balance, work at heights and work with arms above your head occasionally up to frequently. Ability to occasionally up to frequently stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, twist and squat, work on even and uneven surfaces and ability to work occasionally in confined space areas. Ability to frequently push, pull, carry, grasp and finger objects. Subject to frequent vibration and hazards and on occasion exposed to fumes, dust or mist. Must wear protective equipment when required. Must be able to differentiate colors, have vision ability to encompass close-up and distant work, and the ability to speak and hear.
