Electrical Designer

The Electrical Designer is an important part of the Targan Manufacturing group. This person will be responsible for creating, verifying, and maintaining as-built schematic diagrams for Targan machinery. These schematics represent industrial enclosed panels that include automation equipment. This role will work closely with other team members including mechanical engineering to ensure alignment with the physical panel design, an accurate bill of materials, etc. Coordination with production personnel will also be a key component of this position. 

Skills & Qualifications

  • The primary function of this job is to modify, update, and enhance schematics representing industrial control panels to be produced by Targan or other facilities. 
  • Be able to effectively use a schematic CAE software package such as AutoCAD Electrical, or ideally Solidworks Electrical.
  • Must be detail-oriented regarding schematics and documentation. 
  • Must have a basic understanding of standards such as UL508a, NFPA 70, etc.
  • Familiarity with electrical elements used in panel design such as terminal blocks, wire duct, current protection, contactors, disconnects, etc.
  • Preferably have a good understanding of types of electrical products that go into industrial panel designs such as circuit protection, power supplies, AC drives, contactors, etc.
  • Ideally be familiar with controls elements that go into panel designs such as I/O, PLC controllers, safety, etc.
  • A basic understanding of the good mechanical layout of industrial panels such as routing of AC vs. DC conductors, etc.
  • Team player is a must as this position works in conjunction with other engineering teams.


  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering Technology or similar.


  • 1-3 years in a production environment modifying schematic diagrams for industrial panels.

Additional Qualifications:

· Familiarity with UL508a for control panel design.

· Use of Solidworks Electrical.

· Can do FLA and heat calculations. 

· Familiarity with automation components such as AC drives, PLCs, I/O systems.

· Solidworks 3D mechanical experience.

· Familiarity with control safety systems.

· Familiarity with I/O fieldbus systems.

· Use of ERP systems.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed inside a flex space building consisting of offices, open desk space, laboratory, machine shop, and a manufacturing floor. The level of noise is usually quiet in the office environment and temperature controlled. Noise levels are elevated in the warehouse space where temperatures can vary depending on the outside elements and weather. Travel may be required, including up to 2-8 trips per year to visit suppliers, attend conferences, meetings (customer, investor, and business) and customer sites (hatcheries).
