Principal Lead Mechanical Engineer
Description

The Lead Mechanical Engineer holds a key position in the design and advancement of commercial integration initiatives for our Poultry Sex Identification Systems for the global poultry industry. This vacancy is to be filled with a highly creative, seasoned, hands-on designer/engineer, who will lead/participate in commercial integration design planning for our Poultry Sex Identification Systems, including idea generation, process layout designs, conveyance design, feasibility analysis, value assessment, field application engineering and the management of such commercial integration execution. 

  • Lead the design and development of innovative mechanical systems for commercial applications, ensuring functionality, performance, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical and software engineers, to integrate mechanical components seamlessly into overall system architecture.
  • Conduct thorough feasibility studies and risk assessments to guide design decisions and optimize system performance.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.
  • Utilize advanced modeling and simulation tools to assess design concepts, analyze stress, and optimize for manufacturability.
  • Drive the prototyping and testing phases, validating designs and iterating as necessary to meet project objectives.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices to continuously improve design processes and maintain a competitive edge.
  • Collaborate with vendors and suppliers to ensure components meet specifications and quality standards.
  • Create comprehensive documentation, including design specifications, reports, and technical drawings, to facilitate effective communication across teams.
  • Participate in design reviews, providing critical analysis and constructive feedback to enhance the overall quality of the design process.
Requirements

 

Education 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Experience

  • Proven experience (10+ years) in Mechanical design for development and commercial systems, with a focus on bringing products from concept to production.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with a track record of successfully leading projects from conception to completion.
  • Expertise in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and proficiency in simulation tools for structural and thermal analysis.
  • A proactive approach to identifying and addressing design challenges, with a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and cost considerations in design decisions.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards and regulations.


Working Conditions

Work is performed inside a flex space building consisting of offices, open desk space, a laboratory, a machine shop, and a manufacturing floor. The level of noise is usually quiet in the office environment and temperature controlled. Noise levels are elevated in the warehouse space where temperatures can vary depending on the outside elements and weather. Travel may be required, including up to 2-8 trips per year to visit suppliers, attend conferences, meetings (customer, investor, and business), and customer sites (hatcheries).
