Description

 

The Sr. Process Engineer is responsible for small project management, engineering, and process support for production, as measured by labor efficiencies, automation, scrap reduction and tooling controls. This person will champion the department’s activities in direct support of the continuing transformation to Lean Manufacturing by utilizing lean manufacturing tools with consistent application of a team-based approach.



Key Responsibilities & Duties:


• Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods.

• Solves problems confronting manufacturing performance, directly or indirectly. Identifying Root Cause, implementing corrective actions, sustaining improvements, and identifying support as required.

• Analyzes and plans workforce utilization, space requirements, workflow and design layouts of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.

• Must maintain an entrepreneurial spirit, not to be afraid to take risks, celebrate successes of others, and take responsibility for actions and the results of efforts.

• Coaches and mentor interns, new hire, and less tenured engineers.

• Estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.

• Proactively identify and implement process improvement opportunities throughout the company. 

• Develop and maintain work standards supporting company strategies to promote efficient staff and facility utilization including documentation of operational procedures, observations, meetings and required follow up.

• Identify and execute opportunities that will assist locations in meeting budgeted labor expectations by performing analytics, observations, verification of location characteristics, and coaching/mentoring.

• Analyze methods and operations, develops improvement plans, and recommends and/or implements changes.

• Confers with vendors to determine products specifications and arrange for purchases of equipment, tooling, materials, or parts, and evaluates products according to specification and quality standards.

• Participates in and supports the Company’s Six Sigma initiatives.

• Participates and leads Total Lean events to improve productivity and reduce waste.

• Work with management team to identify & lead continuous improvement projects utilizing lean & six sigma principles that drive operational excellence & improve profitability.

• Through execution of lean initiatives drive performance excellence and embrace the role of a change agent for the company. 

• Promote, educate, and instill a culture of waste identification and elimination throughout the manufacturing operation by utilizing Lean Manufacturing concepts and the principles of Kaizen (Continuous Improvement).

• Must be willing to travel, work extended hours and weekends as required to perform the objectives of this function.

Requirements

  

• Bachelor’s Degree, Industrial or Mechanical Engineering preferred. 

• Minimum of 5 years related experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in an engineering based lean, pull-type, reduced inventory products system. 

• Ideal candidate would be a “hands-on” person with shop floor experience. 

• Previous experience with Project Management, Automation integration, process development and improvement.



Technology/Equipment: Proficiency in the use of technology including thorough understanding of Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel.
