Position Summary: The cook is responsible for the production and service of meals for up to 400 campers and staff. Our menus are simple and nutritious with many items made from scratch. We use fresh produce wherever possible and practical. The cook also is the team leader for his/her shift. The kitchen must be clean and safe and in the absence of the food service coordinator, this responsibility falls to the cook.
Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned
• Function as a general all around cook for meals and events. Basic baking may also be required.
• Use various cooking techniques to prepare and serve nutritious meals for up to 400. Techniques include but are not limited to: Fry, boil, bake, roast, steam, and broil using appropriate equipment.
• Oversee the operation of the kitchen ensuring that all food is prepared within food service hygiene standards.
• Work with Food Service Coordinator to ensure adequate supplies of required ingredients.
• Supervise and participate in kitchen clean up during shift.
• Help train kitchen crew under the direction of the Food Service Coordinator.
• Safely operate a wide range of standard kitchen equipment
• Follow work orders to prepare meals and prepare ahead as required.
Essential Functions: • Must be able to lift, push, unload, and move food supplies and equipment up to 50LBS. • Must be able to use kitchen machines and appliances safely. • Must be able to communicate, in writing and verbally, in English. • Must have the cognitive skills to see, hear, and verbally respond to emergency situations.
- Experience as a cook and/or assistant cook.
- • Experience or training in cooking for large groups.
- • High level of professionalism, confidentiality and driven by excellence.
- • Enthusiastic self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision.
- • Non-smoker (we are a tobacco-free workplace.)
- • ServSafe certification preferred. At a minimum, a thorough knowledge of food safety standards is required.
