Job Summary:
The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing the daily construction activities at a work site and ensuring that the project is completed within the given budget and time frame. This position reports to the Construction Manager and works closely with contractors, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee daily construction activities and ensure project progress is on schedule
- Manage the scheduling of workers and delivery of equipment and materials
- Work with contractors to resolve contract disputes and arrange any necessary order changes
- Coordinate with subcontractors, material suppliers, inspectors, testing labs, and others to fulfill schedule requirements
- Assist in the drafting of project administration and professional correspondence
- Maintain awareness of subcontractors and/or suppliers’ ability to perform and meet contract requirements
- Take corrective action when needed by way of written notice – non-conformance, correction notice, deviation, etc.
- Adequately staff all trades under direct employ and supervise foremen
- Evaluate the effectiveness of each operation for quality and productivity
- Initiate positive action to correct substandard quality and/or productivity by way of written notice
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 years of project supervisory experience
- Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret plans, general and technical specifications, contracts and subcontracts, laws, codes, and ordinances, and to enforce their intent
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to manage project teams and client relationships
- Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple priorities simultaneously
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management software
- Ability to travel to project sites as needed
Working Conditions:
- Will travel to project sites as needed
- Work hours may vary based on project requirements and deadlines
- Work in outdoor environments with exposure to inclement weather, construction sites, and heavy equipment
Physical Requirements:
- Stand, walk, and sit for extended periods of time
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Climb stairs and ladders
- Work in confined spaces on occasion
