About the Role:
Join the adventure as a Part-Time Outdoor Instructor! Frost Valley YMCA is seeking vibrant and passionate individuals to be a part of our dynamic team. In this role, you'll dive into thrilling outdoor experiences that ignite a love for learning and foster deeper connections. With Group and Family Retreats programs serving over 10,000 scouts, families, and other weekend guests, you'll lead guided hikes and tours, facilitate arts and recreation programming, and even conquer exhilarating high and low ropes elements. Rain or shine, you'll engage with guests of all ages, bringing nature to life.
Exploring and navigating the outdoors is what we do so you’ll be on a large team of instructors. This position reports into our Groups and Family Retreats team.
**Note this role is weekends only. Most work is from September to October 2024, but some may be available through the winter. Shared on-site housing (private room) is available Friday and Saturday nights for Instructors working both Saturday and Sunday.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Plan and lead various activities and lessons in hiking, high ropes, challenge courses, and local history while following lesson plans for activities with students and guests.
- Show and teach students and other guests new skills helping them gain confidence with the outdoors
- Help ensure safety and health of students and adults on the property.
- Assist in managing and caring for facilities such as the dining hall and equipment for the ropes course ensuring safety and efficiency.
YOU ARE:
- Passionate about the outdoors and people while introducing what nature has to offer to others
- Committed to working with guests from diverse backgrounds with empathy and respect
- Successful working under pressure and are very safety-minded in your decision-making
- Flexible and a great team player, sometimes you’ll lead an activity while other times you’ll assist setting up for another OI’s group
- Available to work evenings and weekends
- Ready for new and exciting challenges every day
YOU HAVE:
- Experience working with children and adults, either in classrooms, after school programs, nature centers, outdoor schools or in a camp setting
- Professionalism and dedication to guest satisfaction
- A valid US Driver’s License and be able to pass internal FV driver training
- Current First Aid/CPR certifications, or the ability to obtain upon hire
NICE TO HAVE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Environmental Studies, Outdoor Recreation, related fields a plus OR equivalent life experience
Rate of pay: $15.25 hourly, shared housing on site Friday and Saturday night (with a private room) and meals included
