TO ACCESSION SURGICAL SAMPLES, MAKE CASSETTES FROM SURGICAL SAMPLES, CUTS AND STAINS INTRAOPERATIVE CONSULTS, GROSSES AND DICTATES DESCRIPTIONS OF SIMPLE TISSUE SPECIMENS, ORGANIZES AND STORES SPECIMENS, AND DISPOSAL OF SPECIMENS.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
MANUAL DEXTERITY AND ADAPTABILITY ARE ESSENTIAL. EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION, TIME MANAGEMENT AND BASIC KEYBOARDING SKILLS ARE NECESSARY.
RESPONSIBILITIES
IDENTIFIES, ORIENTS, DESCRIBES, DICTATES ,AND DISSECTS SIMPLE TISSUE SPECIMENS.
OPERATES MICROTOME IN A CRYOSTAT. CUTS AND STAINS FROZEN SECTIONS.
LOGS SPECIMENS INTO COMPUTER DATABASE AND LABELS CASSETTES FOR STAFF AND RESIDENTS.
RECONCILES SPECIMEN RECEIPT FROM SURGICAL AREAS ADN CYTOLOGY.
CLEANS WORK AREA, AND INSTRUMENTS AFTER USE.
MAINTAINS AND MONITORS EQUIPMENT.
DRAINS FORMALIN FROM SPECIMEN CONTAINERS AND DISPOSES OF BIOLOGICAL WASTE.
AUDITS SUPPLY INVENTORY.
PICKS UP SPECIMENS FROM PATIENT CARE AREAS.

Physical and Environmental Demands

Education & Experience
Associate’s Degree in a laboratory science or medical laboratory technology
