MoboTrex is seeking a full-time Electrical Design Engineer at our corporate headquarters located in Davenport, Iowa. The Electrical Design Engineer produces all design information required to buy, build and install products the company sells, translates customer specifications and industry knowledge into the drawings, bills of material and work instructions for purchasing and manufacturing. The Electrical Design Engineer provides drawings and documentation to allow MoboTrex Field Technicians or Contractors to successfully install and complete turn-on of the designed equipment. Meets regularly with key suppliers to understand supplier products, application, integration, implementation, installation and troubleshooting. Obtains and organizes as much background information as possible on customer letting, customer specific requirements and the current and best method to fulfill customer requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Programming, testing and trouble-shooting traffic signal control equipment in the shop and in the field.
- Understands and translates various codes such as MUTCD, NEMA and UL. Communicates how the code applies to the company’s products and processes.
- Generates electrical wiring diagrams from stated plans and specs, standard templates or past projects for new and existing traffic, lighting and traffic related control cabinets. Integrates related traffic, networking and lighting technology into new and existing systems.
- Generates mechanical drawings for panels, cables, cabinets and cabinet layouts or provide mechanical designers information to complete the required design.
- Ensures that all drawings conform to standard industry & MoboTrex practices.
- Generates and verifies bills of material (BoM) for assemblies and components.
- Generates cost estimates, including proposed design solution, per customer requirements or per sales requests.
- Generates assembly or installation instructions for projects.
- Generates test procedures to verify component or system function when the design is new, untested or to verify operation
- Provides telephone technical support as needed.
- Utilizes CAD System for all drawings, as well as drawing/information archiving process. Provide Suggestions for improvement of document format, content, archiving and retrieval
- Analyzes technology trends and makes recommendations for changes or improvements in our product or offerings.
- Monitors design system technology and recommends changes when appropriate.
- Benchmarks other industries and implements best practices.
- Documents the design process from customer plans and specifications to Design Release.
- Document customer specific preferences in a manner accessible and editable by others.
- Maintains key performance metrics including: Lead time, On-time Delivery, Quality Reporting.
- Develops actions plans to address issues and drive continuous improvement actions.
- Participate/Present at MoboTrex User Group events. Present solutions to customer to clarify proposals or consider new or alternative solutions.
- B.S. Electrical Engineering or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
- Knowledge of how to translate traffic system requirements into standard electrical design
- Knowledge of traffic products, controllers, software and traffic designs preferred
- Experience with MUTCD specifications
- Experience with NEMA Traffic standard - ATC and Caltrans experience a plus
- Field Service experience in traffic systems preferred
- System integration experience a plus. Experience integrating multiple products from internal & external suppliers into a single operating system
- Knowledge and extensive use of Auto CAD preferred
- Ability to work under short deadlines as manage multiple/changing priorities
- Able to use electrical and electronic test equipment, hand tools, and power tools
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit talk or hear and use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls, stand and walk. On occasion the employee may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perceptions and the ability to adjust focus. The position is primarily an office-based position with periodic visits to the production floor and occasional travel may be required.
