Cardinal Point Captains, Inc. (CPC) is seeking a qualified, professional candidate to support the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Marine Sanctuaries West Coast Region Office (WCRO) in Monterey, CA.  WCRO operates two small research vessels, R/V Fulmar, a 67-foot aluminum catamaran, and R/V Tegula, a 22-foot fiberglass Radon boat. The vessels support research, resource protection, and education and outreach missions.


Tasks


· Schedule, plan, and facilitate vessel operations and management team meetings. 

· Coordinate with west coast marine sanctuary sites and partners to develop cruise plans for vessels of opportunity, including ships, ROVs, and manned submersibles.

· Serve as primary point of contact for the site’s electronic cruise planning database/cruise planning system.

· Occasionally augment as a vessel crew member as needed.

· Coordinate and support the site’s vessel captains and deckhands, ensuring they are following all procedures and engineering practices in compliance with the current and appropriate regulating authorities, such as Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC), NOAA Small Boat Program (SBP), and American Bureau of Shipping (ABS).

· Schedule vessel crew for underway and maintenance operations.

· Generate reports about vessel time requests from partner organizations and annual vessel operations summaries.

Requirements

· Advanced Degree is preferred in Marine Resource Management, Biology, Geology, Environmental Studies, Maritime Archaeology, electrical or mechanical engineering or related scientific fields. Bachelor’s degree and four years of additional experience may be substituted in lieu of advanced degree. 

· Five years of experience providing coordination and management of site/vessel crew, operations, maintenance, and scheduling. 

· Research vessel management experience is required. 

· Experience mobilizing research cruises, including tracking personnel and preparing and approving cruise instructions, purchasing and organizing field gear, and coordinating with research vessel operations personnel.

Salary Description
$33-$38/hour
