POSITION SUMMARY
The Podiatrist focuses on evaluation and treatment of diseases of the foot with emphasis in health and conditions affecting the lower extremities. The care provided will be inclusive of initial assessment, minor procedures (not including the operating room), and appropriate triage where necessary.

Essential Functions:
- Reviewing a patient’s medical history.
- Examining a patient’s leg, ankles, and feet to diagnose diseases, illnesses, or injuries.
- Orders X-rays and physical scans of a patient’s lower extremities.
- Treating sport-related leg or foot injuries.
- Treating deformities and ailments with techniques such as casting or laser therapy.
- Prescribing orthotics and pain relief medication.
- Ordering ultrasounds and bone density tests.
- Coordination of care for patients with wound needs.
- Establish and communicate transition of care/follow up plans
- Uses evidenced-based medicine to systematically analyze and improve patient care practices
- Performing ankle and foot surgeries.
- Advising patients on proper foot care and therapeutic techniques.

- Wears identification when on duty; uses the computerized punch time system correctly.
- Completes off site in-services as required and returns in a timely fashion.
- Attends annual review and departmental in-services, as scheduled.
- Attends scheduled staff meetings; reads and returns all monthly staff meeting minutes.

- Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
- Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the facility.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education: A Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) degree from an accredited institution.
Licensure/Certification/Experience:
- Unrestricted license to practice podiatry in the State of Louisiana
- Current CPR certification
- Louisiana CDS and DEA Registration required
Computer Skills:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- EMR experience preferred
