Description
The Hospitalist Physician will specialize in obstetrics and gynecology and will primarily provide inpatient care to obstetric and gynecological patients admitted to the hospital. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in obstetrics and gynecology, excellent clinical skills, and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities:
- Inpatient Care: Provide comprehensive inpatient medical care to obstetric and gynecological patients admitted to the hospital, including patients with obstetric complications, gynecological conditions, and postoperative care. Perform initial assessments, develop treatment plans, and manage the ongoing care of hospitalized patients in collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
- Obstetric Care: Provide prenatal care to pregnant patients, including prenatal screenings, ultrasounds, and monitoring of fetal development. Manage labor and delivery, including performing vaginal deliveries, cesarean sections, and other obstetric procedures as needed. Provide postpartum care to mothers and newborns, including monitoring recovery, addressing postpartum concerns, and providing breastfeeding support.
- Gynecological Care: Perform gynecological procedures and surgeries, such as colposcopy, hysteroscopy, endometrial biopsy, and minimally invasive surgeries (e.g., laparoscopy, hysterectomy). Provide counseling and education to patients regarding contraceptive options, family planning, and reproductive health choices.
- Health Promotion and Education: Educate patients about preventive healthcare measures, lifestyle modifications, and screenings to promote overall health and wellness. Address women's health concerns, provide guidance on health maintenance, and encourage healthy lifestyle behaviors.
- Labor and Delivery Management: Manage labor and delivery for obstetric patients admitted to the hospital, including monitoring maternal and fetal well-being, conducting deliveries, and managing obstetric emergencies. Provide prenatal care, postpartum care, and newborn care to patients admitted for obstetric reasons, including assessment of maternal and neonatal health status.
- Surgical Procedures: Perform gynecological surgical procedures for hospitalized patients, including but not limited to cesarean sections, hysterectomies, myomectomies, and other gynecological surgeries as needed.
- Collaboration and Consultation: Collaborate with hospitalist teams, obstetricians, gynecologists, nurses, midwives, and other healthcare providers to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for hospitalized patients. Consult and collaborate with specialists as needed for complex medical cases or specialized care.
- Documentation and Communication: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient encounters, medical histories, diagnostic tests, treatment plans, and procedures in electronic health records (EHR) systems. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members regarding diagnosis, treatment plans, and discharge instructions.
- Quality Improvement and Patient Safety: Participate in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety protocols, and evidence-based practices to optimize patient outcomes and enhance the quality of care delivered in the hospital setting.
Requirements
- Medical degree (MD or DO) from an accredited medical school.
- Residency training in obstetrics and gynecology (OBGYN) from an accredited residency program.
- Board certification or board eligibility in obstetrics and gynecology.
- Current, unrestricted medical license to practice in the state of Arizona.
- DEA registration for prescribing controlled substances.
- Strong clinical skills and experience in providing obstetric and gynecological care in a hospital setting.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and clinical judgment skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary healthcare team environment.
