About the Role


We are seeking a Project Scientist to support environmental restoration and compliance projects for US Government and commercial clients. This position will support remedial investigation, remedial design, and remedial actions for contaminated sites located throughout the US and requires an understanding of environmental investigation and remediation concepts. This job requires the ability to monitor subcontractors to ensure performance of work in accordance with environmental laws, policies, and contractual requirements, and the oversight of in-house field crews conducting site investigations and/or remediation of soils, groundwater, surface water, or sediments at petroleum- and hazardous-waste sites. This job may require, as part of a team, writing technical documents such as reports, decision documents, and studies as required by the contract.  


This is a hybrid remote position that will require travel (40%-60 of time) and onsite work supporting projects at locations in various U.S. states. Candidates located in St. Louis, MO, Phoenix, AZ, Houston or Dallas-Fort Worth, TX, Atlanta, GA, Tampa, FL preferred.


Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the successful completion of environmental compliance and/or remediation projects, including field work, and preparation of planning documents, reports, designs, and contract documents.
  • Oversight of junior staff conducting work in support of environmental restoration projects.
  • Preparation of subcontractor scopes of work and specifications.
  • Solicitation, evaluation, and procurement of subcontractors for investigation or remediation projects.
  • Onsite management and supervision of environmental cleanup contractors.
  • Evaluation of contractor performance in accordance with approved plans.
  • Coordination and interaction with homeowners and public in support of client.
  • Travel to potentially contaminated sites throughout US to support a wide variety of field activities and contractor oversight.
  • Preparation of technical approaches in support of proposals for environmental restoration projects.
Requirements


Required Experience and Skills

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in environmental consulting.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of site safety health officer (SSHO) experience is preferred. 
  • Demonstrated experience in the application of environmental principles.
  • Prior field experience working on environmental restoration projects and leading field work.
  • Prior experience working for Department of Defense (DoD) clients preferred.
  • Experience with Hazardous, Toxic, and Radioactive Waste (HTRW) and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination preferred.
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills with strong attention to detail. 
  • Organizational skills and ability to plan and manage multiple tasks.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team to execute multiple assignments at various locations, providing a consistently high level of quality and accuracy.
  • Professional demeanor with a positive, solution-seeking attitude and personal responsibility.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license with a safe, clear and satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

This position is hybrid remote and requires approximately 40%-60% travel. Tanaq Environmental, LLC, with headquarters in Anchorage AK and a Program Management Office in Denver CO, supports major project operations in AL, AK, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IL, KS, MD, MO, MS, NV, OH, OK, TX, VA, and WA. Staff are in dispersed locations supporting projects nationwide.


Education and Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering or closely related technical area of expertise from accredited institution. 
  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training with current annual 8-hour update is preferred; training may be provided for otherwise qualified applicants.
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite software (including Outlook, Word, and Excel).

Physical Requirements

  • Must be willing and able to travel 40%-60 of time to visit job sites, perform field work, and attend client meetings.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Mobility: Ability to walk, climb stairs, bend, squat, and kneel to perform inspections throughout the project site. This may include uneven terrain or accessing confined spaces with limited mobility.
  • Strength and Stamina: The ability to lift and carry moderate weight up to 25 lbs (e.g., safety equipment, tools) and maintain stamina for extended periods of site inspections and walking distances.
  • Vision and Hearing: Clear vision (correctable to 20/20) to identify potential hazards, read safety documents, and observe work activities. Good hearing (correctable to acceptable levels) to detect warning signals, alarms, and communication on the job site.
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions and wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) comfortably.
