We are seeking a seasoned scoops-oriented reporter to cover commercial real estate finance for large commercial properties. Our newsletters, Real Estate Alert and Commercial Mortgage Alert, have been covering the sector for 30-plus years. Our reporting teams are committed to telling readers what they are not supposed to know about the latest on deals and dealmakers in the U.S. commercial real estate equity and debt markets. The publications are widely recognized among real estate professionals for their sophisticated, cutting-edge reporting.
Responsibilities
- Breaking exclusive stories on the real estate finance market, including a heavy focus on CMBS and REIT bonds
- Authoring at least 2-3 stories and 1-2 personnel items for weekly publication schedule
- Establishing a contact base and regularly meeting with industry sources
- Attending industry conferences as needed for networking, source development
- Working on articles to accompany quarterly league tables and biannual regulatory compliance feature
- Developing a beat mastery allowing for authoritative trend pieces and market analysis
- Completion of at least a bachelor’s degree
- Candidates should have 5+ years of reporting experience with hard-news clips from a daily newspaper, online information service or weekly publication
- The ideal candidate will have a “nose for news” and a track record of developing hard-to-access sources on competitive beats. Business-news experience is strongly preferred, but not required
- Knowledge of the CMBS market, finance or banking industries is a plus
