Summary:

CNC Shift Lead located at Grandview, MO reports to our Plant Manager and is responsible for programming, setup and operating CNC machine tools to support production demand.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Setup and operate machine tools to efficiently produce parts as required to satisfy production demand. Identify and install required tooling. Write or edit CNC programs to produce parts within stated manufacturing tolerances. Operate the machine to utilize available capacity.
  • Develop new machining processes to produce new parts or parts that have yet to be produced on the CNC equipment. Review part prints to identify tooling and fixture needs, developing new fixtures or altering existing fixtures as needed. Write new CNC programs, complete initial setup and troubleshoot the new process.
  • Continually review and enhance existing processes to improve efficiency. Edit programs and revise fixtures where possible to reduce cost.
  • Check part conformance with engineering blueprints and quality standards upon initial setup and as necessary throughout the production run. Use a variety of measuring instruments, i.e. micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, plug and ring gages, etc.
  • Instruct others in proper operation of and safety procedures for machines. Assist others with setup operations. Operate machines as required. Serve as back-up group leader.
  • While this position is directed towards the CNC machine tools, will be expected to support the entire machining operation.
  • Write Routing Change Requests to properly document process changes.
  • Perform daily maintenance and general housekeeping to insure that the equipment is properly cared for.  Insure that the CNC machine manufacturer’s recommended maintenance schedule be adhered to.  Will perform the routine duties associated with lubrication, coolant, air supply and housekeeping.  Communicate with supervisor when significant maintenance issues are identified/required.
  • Assure strict adherence to company safety and health standards for group.
  • Provides timely and quality services and support to all internal and external customers.

Requirements

  

Required Skills / Experience / Competencies:

  • Must have sufficient experience and/or training in machine shop practices to program, setup, operate and maintain CNC equipment in accordance with engineering drawings and tooling instructions.
  • Must be able to plan and utilize production labor, consistent with company policies, and maintain the respect of the employees in the group.

Work Conditions:

  • Work in an office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Some areas are narrow and difficult to maneuver. Work hours are from 8:00 am until 5:00pm with minimal flexibility. No elevator access to the second floor.
