The Automation and Controls Technician will play a key role in supporting the R&D and production of Targan equipment. This role will be in direct support of Controls Engineering. This support could include testing sensor devices, performing equipment tests, starting up machinery, etc.
- Understanding of industrial automation componentry such as relays, sensors of various types, pushbuttons, lights, power supplies, etc.
- Familiarity with PLC/PAC devices and how they function.
- Familiarity with industrial automation I/O systems, especially Ethernet types.
- Ability to troubleshoot the above systems.
- Use of instrumentation such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc. is essential.
- Have some understanding of schematic diagrams and how to read them.
- Be able to work independently, receive direction from engineering personnel, and perform the task to completion.
- The ability to learn on the job is required for this position.
- Be a team player in cross-functional teams including engineers, scientists, and others.
- High school diploma with 3 to 5 years+ of relevant experience is required.
- Bachelor or Associate degree in electrical engineering technology (or similar) + 0 to 2 years of experience.
- Background in programming PLC/PAC devices.
- The ability to create functional touchscreen HMI programs.
- Knowledge of other programming languages such as Python, C#, etc.
Working Conditions
Work is performed inside a flex space building consisting of offices, open desk space, laboratory, machine shop, and a manufacturing floor. Level of noise is usually quiet in the office environment and temperature controlled. Noise levels are elevated in the warehouse space where temperatures can vary depending on the outside elements and weather. Travel may be required, including up to 2-8 trips per year to visit suppliers, attend conferences, meetings (customer, investor, and business) and customer sites (hatcheries).
