BCC Engineering is seeking a Lead Drainage Engineer for our growing South Carolina Division. Our South Carolina Division serves a variety of clients including SCDOT, local municipalities and private developers. Our projects range from simpler arterial widening projects to complex limited access interchange reconstruction. The Lead Drainage Engineer will serve as a Engineer of Record for drainage design on projects.


Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Serving as Engineer-of-Record (EOR) for drainage design on transportation projects.
  • Responsible charge of task and/or project including coordination with discipline leaders, consultant/sub-consultants and coordination with the client for the full length of the design and construction (post-design) cycle. Establishing work plan, aiding in assigning resources, tracking progress and schedule.
  • Provide technical guidance to group and junior engineers. Perform Quality Control reviews.
  • Training, mentoring and coaching the team on drainage design.
  • Identify skills and knowledge gaps within the department, seek opportunities to provide internal trainings, and identify worthwhile external training content.
  • Facilitate career development of junior engineers and designers through active mentorship, providing formal and informal feedback and seizing opportunities to develop and teach new skills.
  • Marketing - Participate and/or lead marketing efforts for drainage tasks, prepare marketing materials, perform research, prepare and attend presentations, prepare fee proposals and negotiate with client. General marketing.

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • BS in Civil Engineering or related field required; PE required or ability to obtain within 6 Months.
  • 10+ years of drainage design experience (SCDOT or other state DOT design experience is not mandatory, but very much preferred)
  • Demonstrated technical writing and communication skills
  • Ability to lead drainage design for complex transportation projects and manage a team of drainage engineers.

Preferences

  • Experience with MicroStation (preferred) or AutoCAD
  • Demonstrated work experience with hydraulic modeling software such as GEOPAK Drainage, HEC-RAS, StormCAD, ASAD, ICPR, HY-8, FHWA Hydraulic Toolbox, SMS, etc.
  • Experience as a lead technical professional for common transportation drainage tasks such as the design of stormwater management systems, pipe hydraulics.
  • Familiar with SCDOT Plans Preparation Manual, SCDOT Design Standards and SCDOT Drainage Manual
  • Experience and/or willingness to learn preparation of proposals and presentations
  • Ability to build client relationships
  • General marketing.
