Pilot/Escort Operator
Description

Duties and Responsibilities of a Pilot/Escort Vehicle Operator:

  • Acknowledge and carry out written/oral instructions from dispatchers and customers.
  • Assist with the transport of heavy loads to customers in a timely manner.
  • Ensure tractor and trailer are clean and in good working condition.
  • Possess mechanical knowledge of assigned equipment.
  • Perform daily maintenance checks and reports malfunctions to management/mechanics.
  • Complete tire changes and preventative maintenance to vehicles.
  • Ensure customer messages/communications are relayed to appropriate management.
  • Assist in maintaining a neat and clean workplace.
  • Provide exceptional customer service.
  • Comply with escorting rules and regulations.
  • Review permitted route, communicate with team.
  • Maintain proper escort vehicle equipment.
  • Assist in directing load driver to maneuver designated route.
  • Warn traffic of potentially hazardous conditions.
  • Block traffic from passing in situations with limited clearances.
  • Flag traffic to safely pass load movements.
  • Verify clearance exist along permitted route.
  • Document clearances or areas of concern through route survey.
  • Measure loads adjust equipment to accommodate.
  • Perform detailed route survey limited clearance.
  • Stay current on all regulation revisions.
  • Perform alternative tasks as assigned by supervisor.


Level 1 Escort: Entry Level is a rear escort. Duties include: General labor in the yard and on job sites in conjunction with the Heavy Haul Operators. ET-2 assigned to Level 1 Escort.


Level 2 Escort: Intermediate Level is a front escort with a high pole up to 16’ tall. Duties include: Light maintenance plus inspections, tire repair, lights, and minor electrical repair. Route survey up to 15’ height. ET-3 assigned to level 2 Escort. Note: Certifications required for tire and light mechanical work including DOT inspections.


Level 3 Escort: Expert level is a front and rear escort. Duties include: Level 1 and Level 2 in addition to route survey up to 17’ tall, front escort for any height, route analysis (job planning), work with Operations Specialist on jobs over 17’ tall. ET-1 assigned to level 3 Escort.


Work Environment:

While performing the duties of the Escort Pilot job, the driver is frequently exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The driver is occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; work in high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


Physical Demands:

The physical demands must be met by a driver to successfully perform the essential functions of the heavy haul transport job. The driver must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the Escort Pilot driver is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms; climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.


Compensation:

  • Entry Level base pay $750.00 wkly plus 10% commission per each completed Escort job.
  • Intermediate Level base pay $900.00 wkly plus 12% commission per completed Escort job.
  • Expert Level base pay $1,200.00 wkly plus 15% commission per completed Escort job.

Requirements
