Position Type: Unpaid Internship, Fall and/or Spring Semester

Location: Stephens College – Columbia, Missouri


Position Overview:

Stephens College is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Athletic Department Intern for Athletic Communications. This internship offers hands-on experience in sports communication within our NAIA athletic program. The intern will assist in promoting athletic teams, managing media relations, and enhancing the visibility of the athletic department.


Key Responsibilities:


1. Media Relations:

  • Assist the Sports Information Director in coordination of media coverage for athletic events, including press releases and game notes.
  • Maintain relationships with media outlets.

2. Content Creation:

  • Assist the Sports Information Director in the production of content for the athletic department’s website and social media, including game recaps and feature stories.
  • Assist in creating multimedia content to enhance fan engagement.
  • Implement social media strategies to increase visibility.

3. Event Management:

  • Assist in game-day operations, including press box management and live streaming.
  • Coordinate post-game interviews and press conferences.
  • Support special events, such as banquets and award ceremonies.

4. Statistics and Records:

  • Compile and maintain statistics for all athletic teams.
  • Manage historical records for the athletic department.
  • Provide statistical information as needed.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing a degree in communications, journalism, sports management, or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in social media platforms.
  • Experience with graphic design or video editing is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Passion for sports and promoting student-athlete success.
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as required.
