The assistant pastry chef :  

OBJECTIVE: Assisting with Preparation: This includes preparing and baking a variety of desserts, pastries, and breads. This could involve measuring ingredients, mixing batters and doughs, and ensuring proper techniques are followed.  

They share our commitment to exceptional food quality, customer service, and community engagement. Additionally, they ensure compliance with food handling and safety guidelines.   


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

Preparation of Ingredients  

  • Measure and weigh ingredients according to recipes.  
  • Prepare doughs, batters, and fillings for various baked goods and pastries.  
  • Assist in the preparation of icing, glazes, and toppings.  

Baking and Cooking:  

  • Operate baking equipment such as ovens, mixers, and proofing cabinets.  
  • Monitor baking times and temperatures to ensure quality and consistency.  
  • Assist in the baking of bread, cakes, cookies, pies, pastries, and other specialty items  

Decoration and Finishing:  

  • Assist with the decoration of cakes, cupcakes, and pastries.  
  • Apply glazes, frostings, and fillings to finished products.  
  • Create and decorate specialty items for holidays and events.  

Cleaning and Maintenance:  

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of workstations, equipment, and tools.  
  • Follow proper sanitation and food safety guidelines.  
  • Assist in inventory management, including stock rotation and storage.  

Assistance in Menu Development:  

  • Collaborate with the pastry chef in developing new recipes.  
  • Offer creative input for seasonal and special menu items.  
  • Stay updated on industry trends and techniques.

Requirements

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.  
  • Culinary or baking/pastry arts degree/certification is a plus but not required.  
  • Previous experience in a bakery or pastry kitchen is preferred.  
  • Knowledge of baking techniques, methods, and equipment.  
  • Familiarity with a variety of baked goods, pastries, and desserts.  
  • Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.  
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.  
  • Strong attention to detail and precision in measurements.  
  • Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.  
  • Understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.  
  • Creative flair and passion for creating delicious and visually appealing products.  

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

  • Ability to stand for extended periods.  
  • Lift and carry heavy trays, bags of flour, and other supplies.  
  • Work in a hot and humid environment near ovens and other baking equipment.  
  • Dexterity for handling delicate decorations and intricate tasks.
