JOB SUMMARY/ACCOUNTIBILITY:
This position completes intakes on referrals, does mental health assessments, administers appropriate diagnostic tools, diagnoses, develops client centered treatment plans, and provides ongoing mental health treatment utilizing a variety of different mental health counseling modalities. Able to establish a positive, trusting rapport with a wide range of consumers from different ethnic, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds providing therapy to youth, adults, and families. Determines appropriateness for psychiatric evaluation and refers as needed. Documents consumer interaction utilizing SOAP (subjective, objectives, assessment, plan) format and assists in collecting billing information for reimbursement from insurances or other funding sources. Provides limited case management assistance being familiar with other services and resources to refer consumers to. The goal is to assist consumers in being able to resolve/stabilize their mental health symptoms allowing them to optimize their overall well-being and functioning.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Engages and develops rapport leading to building a positive, trusting relationship with a wide range of consumers from different ethnic, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds providing therapy to youth, adults, and families. Demonstrates awareness of the value of cultural competency.
- Demonstrates competency in all facets of clinical interaction including intake, determining appropriateness for admission, provision of mental health assessments and reassessments, administer appropriate mental health tools, and provide accurate diagnoses.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate appropriate client centered treatment plans. Complete documentation (progress notes) utilizing SOAP (Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan) format showing progress or reasons regarding lack thereof in client obtaining treatment goals. Revise treatment plan with client as necessary.
- Comfortable in providing a range of treatment modalities to address multiple mental health conditions. Familiar with transtheoretical model of change assisting clients through pre-contemplation, contemplation, and preparation in addressing clients presenting with substance use who may need a higher level of treatment. Able to provide risk reduction counseling in such areas of substance use, sexually transmitted infections, and able to engage in conversations regarding sexual health and well-being. Is able to work with clients having chronic health conditions, being able to address the stigma that these health conditions may cause them, and working to address the mental health symptoms these individuals experience as a result of these health conditions.
- Provides limited case management services being familiar with other services and resources to refer and link consumers to.
- Both clinical and administrative documentation is accurately filled out and submitted within the time frames required. Clinical documentation is completed using the SOAP (subjective, objectives, assessment, plan) format. Assists in securing billing information required for reimbursement from insurances or other funding sources.
- Educates and builds relationships with other providers of service and the public. Maintains awareness of community changes which could impact service delivery. Conducts community outreach and networks with other service providers developing new venues for the program to participate in.
- Maintains professional conduct with colleagues and facilitates effective interaction in one-on-one situations and in meetings. Ability to be a team player. Participates in ongoing training to increase skill level as both a presenter and an active audience member. Maintains knowledge of current requirements of regulatory, licensing and accreditation agencies. Provides supervision of student interns doing their practicum in counseling within the department.
- Staff maintains professional conduct with clients including being on time for visits, returning phone calls, maintaining professional boundaries and educating clients on all MHS services. Understanding of the functions of patient advocacy and knowledge of rules and regulations concerning HIPAA and client confidentiality. Adheres to the National Association of Social Work standards of conduct.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
- LMSW or master’s degree in related counseling services field required. Licensed at the highest level of degree obtained and a minimum of one year of providing mental health therapy, preferred.
- Comfortable in a culturally diverse environment and demonstrate awareness of the value of cultural competence, and sensitivity in task implementation.
- Ability to take ownership and showcase interpersonal skillset. Good verbal and written skills. Able to communicate effectively.
- Understanding of the functions of patient advocacy and knowledge of rules and regulations concerning HIPAA and client confidentiality.
- Well-organized and demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple tasks; self-driven; achieve desired results and adapt favorably to changing priorities. Highly effective problem-solving ability. Analytical ability sufficient to resolve problems requiring the integration of data from diverse sources.
- Computer literate, proficient in Microsoft Outlook, able to learn and effectively utilize client software database.
WORKING AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Works primarily in a normal office environment with usual pressures and dealing with time constraints. May need to work two evenings a week and one Saturday per month.
