Description

  

Under the guidance of the Rolling Mill Superintendent, this position is primarily accountable for the maximum production at the lowest cost in accordance with established schedules. The incumbent reports to the Rolling Mill General Supervisor, along with three (3) other Rolling Mill Supervisors.


 The Rolling Mill Shift Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and coordination of an assigned shift work force engaged in steel mill rolling operations involving warehousing, reheating, and reducing of steel billets to manufacture concrete reinforcing steel bars or similar bar mill products.


 The incumbent works from schedules, orders, and instructions to assign work to personnel on the basis of operational sequence and labor skills. Confers with supervisor on preceding shift and Rolling Mill Maintenance Supervisor for rolling mill condition, repairs, maintenance, changeovers, and other information. Confers with supervisor on succeeding shift covering the same information. The incumbent ensures that adequate personnel, materials, supplies, tools, and equipment are available for assigned shift work. Consults with other supervisory and production control personnel as necessary regarding billet availability, heat identification, rolling schedules, and quality control problems.

Requirements

Qualifications for this position include   a 4-year degree and should have a working knowledge of manufacturing methods and techniques involving the use of heavy mill machinery and related equipment; being familiar with properties of metals related to ASTM specifications for bar mill products; and the ability to assist with the diagnosis of breakdown problems and maintenance repairs. Previous qualifying experience on related work or lesser jobs of five years with practical training pertaining to steel mill rolling and finishing operations, and to include some supervisory experience.
