Employment Counselor
Description

BASIC FUNCTION:

  • Responsible for orientating, assessing, and case managing public assistance recipients for Self-Sufficiency Center programs. Conducts individual appointments, group orientations, and program participant services for Self-Sufficiency Center programs in all service delivery locations in accordance with program schedules.

WORK PERFORMED:

1) Conducts individual appointments, group orientations, and program participant services for Self-Sufficiency Center programs in all service delivery locations in accordance with program appointment and orientation schedules 

2) Assesses and assigns program participants to Work Experience Program assignments 

3) Maintains regular contact with all Work Experience Program sponsors and facilitates the development and renewal of Work Experience Program worksite contracts 

4) Identifies and troubleshoots Work Experience Program participant and worksite concerns

5) Assist program participants with vocational goals, employment barriers, and necessary supportive services, including Social Security (SSI/SSDI) application assistance  

6) Assists program participants in résumé development, employment application, job searching, vocational goal development, work habits, and work ethic  

7) May conduct Job Readiness Training Program sessions on a weekly basis, following prescribed curriculum and schedule; groups are between 5 and 20 clients, held in both the Jamestown and Dunkirk Self-Sufficiency Center office locations

8) Responsible for providing retention (follow-up) services to program participants

9) Monitors and reports all program participant attendance and compliance/non-compliance and takes appropriate action, including conciliations when necessary

10) Completes all required data entry into WTWCMS 

11) Maintains appropriate and required program participant files

12) Completes and submits reports to program management and/or the Department of Health and Human Services as required 

13) Exercises flexibility in assisting other Self-Sufficiency Center staff

14) Cross-trains with other Self-Sufficiency Center staff to insure flexibility and service delivery

15) Performs all other duties as assigned


Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

EQUIVALENT EDUCATION LEVEL REQUIRED

Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related area.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

One year human services or social work experience. Master's degree in above-mentioned areas will be accepted in lieu of experience.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED

Social awareness, record keeping, world of work, job market, knowledge of vocational rehabilitation and human service agencies in the area, computer proficiency, oral and written communication skills, employment preparation skills, and area industries, area social service, and health agencies.


Salary Description
$34,320 per year
