POSITION TITLE: Energy Technician 2

LOCATION: Greenfield MA

EMPLOYEE STATUS: Non-Exempt

SUPERVISOR: Energy Conservation Coordinator

 


POSITION SUMMARY

The Energy Technician 2 conducts Energy Efficiency and Health & Safety Audits for income-eligible clients throughout Franklin and Hampshire Counties, and provides Contractor Coordination, Project Management and Quality Control Assurance for single and multi-family residential Weatherization projects.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES


  1. Coordinate Energy Efficiency Audit and Healthy Homes Audit Service Delivery
  • Conduct client interview; provide Energy Efficiency and Health & Safety education to Client.
  • Inform Client about other Agency-sponsored conservation programs: Electrical Efficiency Audits, Heat Repair and Replacement, and Fuel Assistance; all other CAPV programs.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of Client information.
  • Perform Data Collection and Building Documentation of existing conditions.
  • Conduct Building Diagnostics.
  • Analyze findings to create project Work Scope using software prescribed by Funding Sources (eAssist, NEAT/MHEA).

2. Project Oversight

  • Comply with Agency and Funders’ paperwork requirements and procedures.
  • Maintain audit, work scope, and billing records/paperwork for assigned jobs.
  • Complete data inputs to track progress for all assigned and completed work.
  • Conduct in-process and at-completion Quality Control Inspections to ensure appropriate installation of specified work.
  • Approve all in-process change orders to work scope.
  • Schedule and attend required Funding Source Field Monitoring Inspections and Quality Control Inspection visits.

3. Perform residential heating system assessments, size replacement equipment, prepare contractor bids, and perform post installation inspections.

4. Perform direct installation of energy conservation measures (ECMs): LED bulbs, domestic hot water devices,plug-in?CO?and smoke detectors, etc.

5. Maintain Agency energy conservation tools and equipment in good condition.

6. Maintain knowledge of and compliance with conservation program regulations.

7. Maintain production schedules as defined by Funding Source contracts, regulations and guidance, and Agency directives.

8. Follow program procedures and comply with documentation requirements.

9. Professional Development 

  • Attend mandatory and relevant Agency and Funding Source trainings.
  • Attend staff and supervisory meetings.
  • Obtain required industry certifications (including but not limited to BPI Energy Auditor and Quality Control Inspector Certifications).
  • Maintain required industry certifications by attending ongoing training and obtaining continuing education units (CEU’s).

10. Required to travel regularly throughout the agency service area, to all Community Action sites and service locations, and occasionally out of the service area.

11. Perform other duties as assigned by the Energy Conservation Manager, Energy Director or Agency

Key Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience working with marginalized communities and individuals with low incomes.
  • Experience involved with residential energy audits, including assessment of Building Shell, Health & Safety and Home Heating Appliances.
  • Experience with data management, data capture, tracking methods and analysis for outcome measurements.
  • Understanding of the house-as-a-system approach to weatherization and home improvement: interrelationships among heat transfer, solar gains and losses, heating system performance, comfort, durability, safety, etc.
  • Knowledge of vermiculite, Knob & Tube, mold/mildew/allergen, etc., mitigation.
  • Knowledge and effective application of Funding Source rules and guidelines for the expenditure of Energy Efficiency, Weatherization, and other relevant funds.
  • Knowledge of local, state and federal building codes, building design and construction, and inherent problems associated with older housing stock and multi-family homes.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and demonstrate close attention to details.
  • Computer skills: E-mail, Microsoft Office applications, data entry and energy modeling software programs.


To Qualify?

Minimum Qualifications/Transferable Skills:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have own reliable transportation for traveling throughout the agency and program’s service area.
  • Two years’ Building Performance Institute Energy Analyst and QCI professional credentials preferred, or ability to obtain certification within two years of hire.
  • MA Department of Housing and Community Development DOE Energy Auditor Certification preferred, or ability to obtain certification within two years of hire. hire.
  • OSHA 10 (or greater) training/certification preferred, or ability to obtain certification within three months of hire.
  • Moderate Lead Renovator certification and DOE/MA Lead-Safe Training and certification preferred, or ability to obtain certification with three months of hire.
  • Proficiency with building diagnostics and building diagnostic equipment preferred: blower door, zonal pressure differentials, infrared thermography, fan flow meter, pressure pan, duct tester preferred. On-the-job training provided.
  • Proficiency with BPI combustion safety protocols preferred: CO safety analysis of all combustion appliances, gas leak detection of all distribution systems preferred. On-the-job training provided.
  • Proficiency with AHRAE 62.2 Whole House Ventilation requirements preferred.
  • Proficiency assessing Home Heating System performance preferred; experience sizing Home Heating Equipment for replacement a plus.
  • Building Construction, Insulation, or Healthy Homes background a plus.
