Description

The Director of Plant Operations will direct and lead plant operations and maintenance functions for PHS in determining operations and maintenance strategies, work plans, budgets, and staffing to implement initiatives and effectively manage operational performance. The Director will also organize all housekeeping/laundry staff with assigned duties, ensuring all areas of the facility meet sanitation standards. The Director will ensure all staff are trained and continually educated regarding policies/procedures for the department. Reports directly to CEO.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

· Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff. 

· Oversees the daily workflow and schedules of the department.

· Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive. 

· Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy. 


Duties/Responsibilities:

· Monitors existing policies, procedures, and programs for effectiveness.

· Develops, implements, administers, and modifies programs to maintain the physical 

  plant, grounds, and equipment for all hospital facilities through effective utilization of 

  personnel and materials.

· Assures complete and proper logging of files and records and required cost computation 

  of time spent, materials, and supplies used for each completed requisition or work order.

· Inspects buildings and grounds to ensure conformance with established standards and  

  regulations.

· Plans, organizes, directs, and supervises the functions and activities of facilities 

  management and engineering, loss prevention management, and telecommunications.

· Develops, implements and monitors the hospital-wide safety program as well as the 

  Emergency Preparedness Program.

· Works closely with each facility department in safety management and development of 

  departmental safety programs.

· Prepares reports of hospital safety management activities to the Quality Management 

  Board.

· Acts as the Safety Officer with the responsibility to act in the event of emergency and to 

  disseminate whatever action needed to effect immediate corrections for life threatening 

  conditions.

· Collaborate with stakeholders and/or outside contractors to determine scope of project 

  requirements, schedule and budgetary estimates, and timeframe.

· Oversee the housekeeping, laundry, and maintenance departments and their staff as 

  assigned.

· Ensure the preparation of various statistical and operating reports for the hospital’s 

  Safety/Risk Committee, Infection Control Committee, and up to the Governing Board.

· Responsible for assigned departmental performance improvement and quality initiatives 

  consistent with organizational policies and procedures.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

· Adheres to the facility’s Standards of Excellence.

· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software, as well as inventory software.


Education and Experience:

· One (1) year certificate from college or technical school; or 3 years related experience 

  and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Knowledge of utility systems management

· Experience in hospital operations highly preferred

· Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

· Basic computer knowledge


Physical Requirements: 

· Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. 

· May be asked to travel to visit vendors or different company locations.
