Description

Position Overview:

At Bread Alone we are committed to the environment, to the community that has supported us for over 40 years, and our love of craft. Founded in 1983, our artisan Boiceville campus was recently renovated into the nation's first and only carbon-neutral bakery and commissary. As a part of our team, you will participate in the daily production of all items for our Hudson Valley cafes and New York City greenmarkets. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work with our one-of-a-kind traditional wood-fired ovens, and modern baking and culinary equipment (entirely powered by solar panels) in our Artisan Production Facility.

As a member of our team, you'll be instrumental in continuing our tradition of creating exceptional handcrafted pastries and breads. Our team is expected to work collaboratively, and across different culinary and baking disciplines to deliver exceptional products to the cafes and markets every day. As an Artisan Professional, you will have the opportunity to participate in making our full line of breads and pastries. This includes learning the mixing, shaping, and baking of a wide variety of naturally leavened loaves and rolls crafted to showcase regional grains and traditional techniques. Our viennoiserie and pastry programs offer the opportunity to make a wide variety of croissants, danishes, and sweets.


Hours:
We are seeking individuals to fill roles in our Bread and Pastry departments.  Hours worked will depend on your area of interest and skill set. Working hours for the production team are between 6:00 am and 10:30 pm.

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with our Pastry Chef and Head Baker to craft a diverse range of baked goods for our three Cafes and NYC greenmarkets Consistently produce items that meet our rigorous standards
  • Uphold cleanliness and safety protocols, in line with our commitment to excellence

Job Requirements

  • Able to stand for long periods of time while executing tasks quickly and accurately
  • Able to to work in a physically demanding fast-paced environment
  • Able to tolerate exposure to high levels of heat and cold
  • Able to twist and bend repeatedly for long periods of time
  • Respect for and comfort with a diverse and inclusive workplace
  • Able to pull, push, move and lift to waist level and carry awkward and shifting weights up to 50 pounds
  • Able to work with, handle, operate, and control hot equipment and products in a safe manner according to Bread Alone guidelines
  • Able and willing to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and assigned uniform as required per company policy
  • Willing to take responsibility for your own and others safety a well as follow safety rules and regulations and report any unsafe conditions to management
  • Willing to follow all Good Manufacturing Practices which includes but are not limited to: Removing any visible or exposed piercings and body jewelry, personal accessories, false nails & refraining from makeup at work (ie. mascara or heavy foundation, lipstick)
  • The Bakery is open 365 days a year and team members must be willing to work consistently throughout the year which includes holidays and weekends

Job Type: Full-time, non exempt


Compensation Details: Bread Alone is deeply committed to ethically balancing the demands of the business and paying a living wage to all those who contribute to our success. The starting pay range for this position is  $18.00-$23.00  per hour with the possibility to earn significantly more for highly skilled team members. A breakdown of the pay range for all positions company-wide is available for all team members.

  • Wellness Time: During the first year of employment wellness time for hourly employees is accrued at 1 hour per 30 hours worked totaling a yearly amount of 56 hours. Unused time is paid out on the employees one year anniversary
