Hours: Monday to Friday - 8am - 5pm


Summary & Objective

The Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory services to patients under orders from the referring physician, so that the quality of the patient's life may be enhanced. The Respiratory Therapist will be tasked with educating end users on patient specific medical devices used in the CHI hospice care settings.


Essential Functions

  • The Respiratory Therapist will perform a thorough assessment, evaluation and documentation of patient’s level of respiratory functioning in response to therapy and functions in accordance with their state’s practice act, as applicable.
  • Consult with physicians to develop treatment plans.
  • Develop with the team and implement an individualized treatment plan for each patient to promote optimal respiratory function related to the patient’s potential and provides respiratory services in accordance with plan of care.
  • Delivers and assesses response to ordered therapy per plan of care. Monitors, documents, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
  • Provide peer-to-peer education and consultation to RN, RT, Physician, and other healthcare staff in support of end-user education needs in the healthcare setting.
  • Assess customer needs and assist with resolving issues stemming from lack of medical device knowledge or understanding of the particular product.
  • Assist in the delivery of medical device-related in-service education to support key customers.

Other Duties

  • Participate in patient care for Broward and Dade County patients.
  • Maintains equipment in a sanitary condition having the appropriate supplies when making rounds for patient treatments.
  • Assists Leadership Team in gathering departmental statistics when necessary for the Q.A. reports.
  • Participates in providing instruction regarding respiratory care and equipment to patient, staff and volunteers as needed.
  • Ability to make decisions within the scope of respiratory care and make appropriate recommendations as indicated to the responsible physician.
  • Serve as an education resource person on particular respiratory device.
  • Participate with the team with hurricane preparedness to ensure patients’ safety
  • Comply with standards related to safety and infection control.
  • Maintain the required licenses, certifications and mandatory skill updates.
  • Comply with all policies, local, state and federal laws and regulations.
  • Provide other duties of healthcare team member
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility

  • May serve as an interim department leader depending on need 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 250+ pounds, walk, climb stair or ladders, stand on feet for extended periods of time, etc.

Requirements

Knowledge & Experience Requirements

  • Clear and Active RCP license to practice in the state of Florida. 
  • Graduate of an accredited program for Respiratory Therapy is required.
  • Registration or certification by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) (CRT minimum; RRT preferred)
  • 1-3 years of experience in a Health Care Facility. Hospice experience preferred. 
  • CPR certification.
  • Must have knowledge of computer office/clinical software.
  • Must be able to read, write and understand the English language.
