FULL-TIME ASBURY STUDENTS ASSOCIATE (FEMALE)

JOB TITLE: Asbury Students Associate (Female) 

REPORTS TO: Director of Asbury Students

DEPARTMENT: Asbury Students Ministry 

STATUS: Full-Time

DATE: August 2024 

CLASSIFICATION (FLSA): Exempt

TYPICAL DAYS: Sunday – Thursday 

TYPICAL HOURS: 40 hours/week


JOB SUMMARY


The Asbury Students Associate (Female) is responsible for equipping and encouraging students and their parents to live life with Christ. The Student Associate is responsible for ministering to female students in middle school/high school youth group and dealing with female specific, sensitive context, in addition to attending camps and other ministry events. The female associate will also be responsible for equipping and encouraging students and their parents to live life with Christ. This position is responsible for facilitating weekly ministry programs, preparing and teaching lessons or talks, organizing and preparing for annual events, meeting with and building relationship with students, caring for volunteers, and improving current methods of ministry.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Actively demonstrates our biblically rooted and Christ centered core behaviors.
  • Build strong, sustained relationships with students (individual and group setting) by attending events/performances, communicating with students regarding life events, and acting as spiritual mentors.
  • Build strong, sustained relationships with parents through prayer, encouragement, communication, and equipping parents to be spiritual leaders for their students. 
  • Recruit, train, develop and care for volunteers for weekly ministry programming (as applicable) and special events (SBM, retreats, Overlap, etc.)
  • Implement ministry curriculum and teaching series by creating and/or modifying lessons, sermons, or talks for weekly ministry programming (Sunday AM, Wednesday PM, etc.) working within Asbury and Family Ministry team’s curricular goals.
  • Plan, lead, and or attend large ministry events throughout the year, including (not limited to) ministry area retreats, Overlap, Spring Break Mission Trips, Asbury VBS, and Back to School Bash.
  • Plan, lead and or attend weekly ministry programming by maintaining teaching/preaching schedules, planning games, activities, preparing facilities, as well as working alongside music ministry staff to facilitate worship.
  • Work with supervisors to manage records of expenses, budgetary considerations, student participation, and records within Shelby Next.
  • Participate in continuing education or training conferences and remain aware of resources for developing the student ministry programming, events and volunteers.
  • Ensure that all possible safety and security measures are taken at events and weekly ministry programming (i.e. background checks for volunteers and Alert team members are available, etc.)
  • Act as a liaison between the church and other community organizations, people and resources that relate to teenagers.
  • Collaborate with other Asbury ministry teams as necessary to further the vison and mission of Asbury, building and maintain strong working relationships.
  • Actively participate as part of the Asbury Students team by participating in weekly meetings, supporting the initiatives of other ministry areas within Asbury Students or Family Ministry and working together to utilize the gifts and talents of entire student ministry team.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS JOB 

  • Work closely with college ministry to help facilitate the transition of students from high school to college through various initiative and events, while staying connected within the larger church.
  • Collaborate with Events team to coordinate graduation celebration/events as applicable.
  • Be available to students in a variety of ways and in varying times of need (I.e. lunch at school, attendance at extracurricular activities, time of crisis, etc.)
  • Constantly evaluate structures, programs, and events to assess updates that should be made.
  • Remain aware of the changing interests and attitudes of the student population and address any issues one on one or in a group setting.

REQUIREMENTS FOR THE POSITION

  • Must be an active member or become an active member of Asbury Church.
  • Must have vision and a demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage, and implement within the parameters of a theologically conservative church.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in student ministry preferred.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work quickly.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be a self-starter and able to work with little oversight.
  • Must be adaptable to quickly changing situations.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality in all circumstances. 
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while serving others.
  • Must be able to work with all levels of clergy, leadership, and staff effectively.
  • Must be able to understand the heart of a student and how it varies from middle school to college.
