ABOUT THIS ROLE
Associations International (AI) is an association management company based in Lexington, KY, who partners with non-profit trade and career associations. Our job is to help those non-profits meet their mission and grow their membership through the work of our talented, dedicated team.
Our client partner, the International Coaching Federation (ICF), is seeking a Vice President to serve as Chief of Staff for ICF Coaching Education, which is a part of the ICF Global Federation. Working in conjunction with volunteer leadership and the professional management staff, the Vice President of ICF Coaching Education is responsible for the overall management and operations of the organization. In this capacity, the Vice President of ICF Coaching Education provides fiscal and personnel management, develops effective relationships with stakeholders, and positively represents the association to external audiences.
The Vice President of ICF Coaching Education maintains a high level of knowledge of and extensive experience in managing associations, membership organizations, and/or nonprofit organizations. The Vice President of ICF Coaching Education shall demonstrate entrepreneurial business skills for the growth and development of Coaching Education and Training.
The Vice President of ICF Coaching Education reports to the Chief Executive Officer of ICF. All functions performed by the Vice President of ICF Coaching Education shall be aligned with the overall GE strategic plan carried out within parameters established by the ICF Coaching Education’s bylaws, strategic impact plan, annual budget, and in close coordination with the ICF Coaching Education Board of Directors.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
In alignment with ICF GE Strategic Plan and ICF Board Direction:
1. Management:
- Provides for effective execution of Coaching Education programs, services and events in line with the strategic impact plan or direction as established by the ICF Coaching Education board
- Provides for sound fiscal planning and management in collaboration with the board leadership
- Contributes and participates in ICF’s senior leadership team (The First Team)
- Leads and develops policies, procedures and systems to support the Coaching Education staff team and its services according to leading practices and standards for accreditation
2. Communication:
- Provides information to ICF Coaching Education and ICF General Enterprise Board of Directors to keep them apprised of activities and key developments and/or concerns and roadblocks within the organization
- Maintains effective communication with organization participants, including procedural guidance for Coaching Education programs to successfully navigate the accreditation process
- Maintains effective communication with ICF’s other Family Organization Vice Presidents and senior staff, and the senior partners at Associations International (finance, HR, technology)
3. Relationships:
- Works and communicates with participants in a responsive and respectful manner, demonstrating sensitivity to individual needs and interests, and exhibiting effective leadership qualities
- Maintains “partner” relationship with ICF Coaching Education Board of Directors and ICF senior staff
- Works in a positive and productive manner with the ICF Coaching Education Board of Directors, responsive to board input and direction and offering sound advice and guidance
- Develops a relationship of mutual support with the staff, provides the staff with effective leadership and fosters high staff performance and morale
4. Representation:
- Serves as ICF Coaching Education’s primary representative as necessary
- Serves with the ICF Coaching Education Board Chair as co-spokesperson to the media
5. Leadership:
- Serves as a facilitative leader for the ICF Coaching Education Board of Directors and other volunteer leadership groups, offering recommendations, advice and counsel while consistently recognizing and adhering to the ultimate authority of the Board of Directors and ICF
- Provides strategic thinking, creativity and planning to assist the board with vision and direction
- Employs effective leadership skills in the management of staff and contractors
- Maintains a positive and influential leadership profile within the coaching industry
- Perform other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Minimum of 5-7 years of professional business/management, association management, higher education and/or non-profit management experience.
- Experience working with a volunteer, nonprofit Board of Directors
- Experience in accreditation programs within nonprofit, academic, medical or other disciplines
- Demonstrated leadership ability
- Public speaking experience
- Ability to travel frequently and work some nights and weekends
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Experience managing 501(c)(6) organization
- CAE Certification (preferred)
- Experience with/knowledge of the professional coaching industry
