JOB SUMMARY
Assist Physician with patient examination and treatment, responsible for patient histories, routine diagnostic procedures, as well as some clerical duties.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitate patient care
- Preliminary work-up: history, chief complaint, visual acuity, eye pressure, pupil reactions, scope of vision, color vision and muscle movement.
- Manual refractions.
- Tonometry (Applanation, Tonopen).
- Diagnostic testing: Biometry, Topography, OCT, Visual Fields, Fundus Photos.
- Take dictation and document exam findings while physician is examining patient.
- Administer drops under physician supervision.
- Write out necessary prescriptions.
- Take and explain tests, procedures, treatments, and diagnoses to patients.
- Maintain and stock all exam rooms.
- Clean and maintain all instruments.
- Assist physician in minor office surgery.
- Return and answer patient phone calls as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Minimum of four (4) years’ experience in an ophthalmic practice.
• Minimum of four (4) years’ experience performing ophthalmic procedures and diagnostic testing.
• COA or COT certification; if non-certified, COA must be obtained within 6 months of hire date.
• Ability to effectively prioritize multiple patient care needs.
• Ability to lead and provide guidance in all situations.
• Experience in using Electronic Medical Records (EMR), EMA/ModMed preferred.
• Reliability and dependability.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Proficient in Outlook and Microsoft Office.
• Flexibility (may require some early mornings and evenings)
