Scrap Metal Inspector
Description

  

· Adhere to company safety policy and all OSHA requirements

· Interact with suppliers and peddlers on a daily basis

· Demonstrate good customer service

· Inspect all inbound scrap metal deliveries

· Document (using tablet or another company-issued device) any non-conforming items in scrap metal deliveries and report findings to scale operator and commercial personnel. On-the-job training provided.

· Make appropriate deductions for loads containing excessive non-metallic material

· Maintain constant communication with office personnel, operators, and on-site company drivers by radio and phone

· Monitor and direct traffic flow through the yard

· Crosstrain in multiple roles and on various pieces of mobile equipment to assist general operations when shorthanded

· Use handheld Geiger counter to survey loads and pinpoint location of lightly radioactive material

· Maintain hard copy of commodity description with picture handbook

· As needed, present ‘lessons learned’ and/or training to staff at plant operations meeting

· Make recommendations for process improvement through proper channels as needed

· Crosstrain staff on inspection procedures

Requirements

  

· Minimum 1 year of experience working in a heavy manufacturing environment

· Ability to navigate in, and adapt to, a fast-paced and dynamic environment

· Ability to work Saturdays and extended hours during the week

· Ability to adhere to schedule 

· Ability to work well under pressure and diffuse tense interpersonal situations

· Must have dependable transportation to and from work

· Must have a cellular phone

· Ability to stand/walk/remain outside in most weather conditions for up to 12 hours per day

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs several times a day

· Ability to understand and carry out written and/or oral instructions

· Prior experience operating heavy equipment is a plus

· Knowledge of different metals (metal identification) a plus

· Ability to speak Spanish and English (Bilingual) a plus
