Description
Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Aquatics Supervisor, foster a positive and supportive swim team environment. The Swim Team Coach will instruct the fundamentals of competitive swimming, ensuring a constructive and encouraging atmosphere, and provide effective guidance during training sessions. The Swim Team Coach will oversee all facets of swim team development, including recruitment, administration, and the instruction and supervision of students across all ages and skill levels within the program. The role requires the exercise of sound judgment and initiative.
Essential Functions:
- Plan and develop competitive swim program.
- Assist swimmers in registering for swim meets.
- Attend swim meets as needed.
- Plan and develop engaging and appropriate level workouts.
- Develop and maintain relationships with the swimmers and their families.
- Develop and communicate team vision and goals.
- Maintain supervision of the swim team at all times.
- Perform administrative duties for the team.
- Maintain attendance records and logs.
- Manage Team Unify website and database.
- Monitor and track all payments.
- Prevent accidents through the enforcement of policies, rules, regulations, and ordinances governing the conduct of patrons in the pool area.
- Maintains order, anticipate hazardous situations, and take steps to prevent them.
- Perform rescues and administer first aid/CPR as necessary.
- Use proper rescue equipment and techniques.
- Assist in the overall operations of the pool; including opening and closing.
- Maintain a clean and debris free pool, pool area, and locker room facilities.
- Maintain positive, professional, responsive, and polite public relations.
- Attend staff meetings and training.
- Help provide an atmosphere for developing good morale and well-being among the HRD community.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Essential Knowledge and Abilities:
- American Red Cross Lifeguard training, general lifeguard techniques.
- Coaching and/or competitive swimming experience.
- Able to perform a rescue, give CPR and First Aid as appropriate.
- Ability to teach all 4 competitive strokes.
- Able to provide in water instruction.
- Ability to travel locally to swim meets.
- Able to provide constructive feedback and instruction to swimmers in all levels.
- Knowledge of Pool rules and practices.
- Ability to be reliable, punctual, approachable and dedicated to the Dolphins swim team.
- Must remain calm and efficient in stressful situations and emergencies.
- Ability to work with patrons with special needs.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education is preferred.
- Required Certificates:
- Current American Red Cross Lifeguard.
- Current American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.
- USA Swimming Coach
Physical Demands
- Adequate visual and auditory skills to observe and respond to critical incidents, with the physical capability to act swiftly in emergency situations.
- Ability to lead and participate in group activities, perform related physical tasks, and maintain various postures such as standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
- Capacity to climb, push, pull, and lift or carry objects up to 20 pounds.
- This role mainly involves working in an outdoor aquatic environment with wet and/or slippery surfaces and may involve exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals, extreme temperatures, sunlight, and inclement weather.

- This position is considered to have a supervisory or disciplinary relationship over minors.
