Accountability: South Fork Watershed Manager will report to the Riverkeeper

About: Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation (Catawba Riverkeeper) was founded in 1997 as the 21st waterkeeper organization in the U.S. Now, proudly part of an international movement that boasts over 400 local organizations, we preserve, protect and restore the waters of the Catawba-Wateree River Basin for all through education, advocacy, and engagement. Our 5,000 square mile river basin includes over 8,900 miles of waterways across 26 counties in North and South Carolina.
The South Fork Watershed Manager will advance the Catawba Riverkeeper Foundation (CRF) goals in the South Fork River basin. This watershed is defined as the South Fork River and its tributaries (HUC 03050102). The Manager is part of the Protect Team and will focus on completing restoration plans and projects, based on the South Fork Restoration and Protection Plan while executing existing programs and investigating new opportunities to improve water quality and resiliency. The Manager will work in close coordination with the South Fork Collective, State Parks, nonprofits, local municipalities, landowners, educational institutions, and others with expertise to advocate for and restore water quality. The position will be based at the CRF headquarters in McAdenville, NC, and other areas as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Proudly serve the local community, serving as an ambassador, promoting awareness and advocacy for the Catawba Riverkeeper and our mission.
- Manage and execute the organization’s priorities in the watershed. This includes:
- Assist Riverkeeper as directed on other projects. These may include but are not limited to investigations, citizen complaints, CAFO sampling, Trash Traps Riversweep, and Water Watcher Training.
- Participate, as appropriate and able, with the organization’s fundraising and marketing efforts as requested by Catawba Riverkeeper staff members including Riverfest.
- Exemplifies the Catawba Riverkeeper mission statement and supports staff, departments, and leadership in pursuing and achieving goals.
- Performs any other duties needed to help drive our vision, fulfill our mission, and abide by our values.
Requirements:
· Degree in a relevant field such as environmental science, chemistry, biology, geography, or equivalent work experience
· Exhibits a passion for the mission of Catawba Riverkeeper.
· Successfully pass a standard background review.
· Maintain a valid driver’s license at all times.
· Live or be willing to relocate within the South Fork watershed.
· Comfortable working on the water and outdoors in all weather conditions.
· Willingness for continuous learning and self-teaching.
· Work nights and weekends as needed.
Preferred Skills and Experiences:
· Demonstrable experience in technical writing
· Demonstrable experience with ArcGIS software (ArcPro, ArcOnline, StoryMaps, Dashboards, Python language, and Survey123)
· Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets
· Experience paddling and/or small boat operation
· Experience in fish population surveys or significant experience fishing
· Familiarity with data analysis, management, and visualizations
· Familiarity with stream restoration
