Joint Concept Subject Matter Expert (SME)

The Joint Staff (JS) J7 is the lead for the Joint Futures and Concepts Program on behalf of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Joint Futures and Concepts Program is comprised of a future oriented ecosystem of Joint Concepts that include the Joint Warfighting Concept series (JWC), future Joint Operating Environment series (JOE), Operating and Functional Concepts, threat-based Concepts of Operation, and research and analysis. CPT provides lead SMEs who contribute directly to innovative thought, technology and operational application of future capabilities, and lead intellectual content development for all JS J7 Joint Force Development and Design efforts aligned to and supporting the National Defense Strategy and National Military Strategy.


The Role: CPT is seeking a seasoned Future Concept Development subject matter expert to build out our team. Candidates should have a strong background including DoD operational and staff experience, with a direct experience in technology, innovation, and conceptual work. Work products will include developing and presenting senior executive level briefs, white papers, research themes, and concepts. Specific requirements are described below. 


Requirements

Security Clearance: Must have an active Top-Secret clearance, with eligibility for TS/SCI 


Skill Set & Required Experience 

  • Military or civilian government service experience at the O-5/GS-14 level or above
  • Master’s degree in international relations, national security, or history
  • Active Top Secret clearance, eligible for TS/SCI
  • Expert-level experience developing, writing, and presenting executive-level briefings, papers, articles, and/or reports
  • Experience at the Joint Staff, CCMD, or senior Service staff level
  • Expert-level experience in military operations and planning at the strategic or operational level
  • Conversant with future technologies and all-domain capabilities (land, maritime, air, cyber, space, and EMS)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an advanced warfighting school (SAMS, SAW, JAWS, SAAS, MAWS) or war college preferred
  • Conversant in Joint Force Development and Design activities, or Joint and Service concepts and doctrine (including JWC, MDO, DMO, EABO, ACE) preferred
