Job Summary: Performs as an instructor in a regular classroom setting, presenting instructions in designated subject areas.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Conducts and manages academic classes.
- Demonstrates and abides by the Company Core Values and the operating principles.
- Responsible for helping students achieve Math/Reading gains, attainment in assigned subject areas, and/or HSD/HSE obtainment.
- Responsible for meeting department goals and objectives as assigned by department manager.
- Promotes a positive and desirable atmosphere within the classroom setting to insure maximum student motivation.
- Maintains a high degree of discipline within the classroom setting in order to insure maximum learning.
- Documents student’s records according to requirements of policy requirements, and centers operating procedures ; accesses and inputs all relevant student data, including but not limited to student attendance, performance, progress, positive behavior, and disciplinary incident; reports all significant behavioral incidents immediately to supervisor.
- Establishes a high degree of student/instructor rapport.
- Utilizes provided curriculum resources, implements new curriculum, and develops curriculum through Educational Learning Plans.
- Responsible for integrating applied academic activities into daily classroom curriculum.
- Responsible for adequate classroom preparation.
- Responsible for tracking student performance and achievement.
- Assess and make recommendation student awards as approved within the Centers student incentive plan.
- Records attendance at the beginning of each class period.
- Assists in the completion of all necessary Job Corps forms and entering case notes at least once a month for each student assigned.
- Responsible for following security measures to ensure that equipment, curriculum, tests, and supplies are secured and cared for.
- Accountable for the cleanliness of classrooms.
- Prepares report, requisitions, and prepares evaluations of student performance (ESP) in a timely manner.
- Assists manager during scheduled property inventory.
- Monitors and reviews daily each student’s progress to ensure students are making adequate progress and performing their own work.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum: Bachelor’s degree. Certified to teach in the state in which center is located. (RO may waive if the center is unable to hire a certified teacher, but the candidate must actively pursue certification along an agreed upon timeframe).
Preferred: One year in a teaching capacity with disadvantaged youth.
Knowledge: Knowledge of required subject area, excellent communication skills, both oral and written, excellent organizational skills, must obtain and maintain CPR/First Aid Certification, ability to motivate and inspire students, ability to effectively relate to student population.
